Can one of you at least tell me ,who should be captain.
We need to sign one. We had a poor squad in 1986-87 and McEwan signed Kuhl in March, made him the captain and he was the driving force in the middle and in the following season he showed a lot of leadership for the following season. I think Bassett made a mistake selling him to Watford in exchange for Powell and Agana. Agana turned out to be a very good striker for us from 1988-89 season but for the rest of the 1987-88 season he scored only twice and was suffering from an injury and played in matches when he wasnt fully fit. Powell didnt do anything for us. Bassett admitted that he tried to do many changes when he first came in to the Lane and we went down. I think had we kept Kuhl then we wouldnt have gone down. We now need an up and coming captain like Kuhl was in 1987

Why are we apologists Silent? I judge each player in each game we play on that merit, nothing to do with apologist mentality. Quite simply, Doyle played well yesterday and has been (imo) probably our most consistent player this season. When he's crap I'll cast him as so. Too many people pre judge players because of their dislike and fail to see individual performances in the true light.
Jamie Murphy has never been a favourite of mine, but yesterday he gave their full back a torrid afternoon, well done to him and I hope he keeps it up. You seem incapable of similar attitude when it comes to Michael Doyle,
I admit that yesterday Doyle played better than his average self but he still doesnt inspire many at the Lane. Thinking of our past captains in the last 44 years I struggle to think which of them was a worse player than Doyle or which of them was a worst leader than Doyle

Actually, with a pedant's appreciation on facts, Alex Ferguson wasn't sacked, neither was Bill Shankly, and you might wish to add to those two, but you are completely correct, there's an inevitability on the length of tenure a manager has at a club.
We're a good example of lack of stability. I just hope that we've learnt that lesson and give ourselves a chance to let NC take this club by the scruff of it's collar and build something worthwhile.

How bad is the squad mentally?

Chucking away the lead in the last three league games answers that.

For me, we've made massive strides in terms of mental strength under Clough. Yes, we're still struggling to hold onto to leads but we're showing signs of being far more resilient than we have been for a long time.

At Orient and Villa, I expected us to crumble after conceding late equalisers and each time we got straight back on the front foot. That wouldn't have been the case before Clough arrived. On Saturday as well we showed a great determination to go on and win the game after being pegged back.
