“Sheffield Utd could have probably scored more than three if they had wanted to. But what gets me is that they don’t look like a Premier league side in waiting although them & Burnley are pretty much nailed on to go up, which speaks volumes of how bad we really are. For god’s sake, Wrexham gave them a tougher game in midweek.”

Simple innit son, we have a rather important game coming up mid week, so we are going to do just enough nothing more to get the 3pts. That said Swansea play some lovely passing football unfortunately for them it is all in areas that doesn't hurt teams. Tippy tappy shit that produced just two half chances all game whereas a coasting United could have easily had five or six goals today with a bit of luck. There is a reason that we are 10pts clear of 3rd and it isn't because every other team is shit.

Thanks Roy. No surprise about these comments really. I had us for a one nowt win but I'm very glad to be completely wrong.
Bring on Boro.

Cheers Roy they call it right & thats rare assessment nowadays ⚔️

Cheers Roy 🥳👍
I thought they were dangerous without being dangerous today 🙃 nice approach play but that's about it.

I thought they looked quite neat in patches, but they lacked any final product and our press kept causing mistakes when they were in possession.
Agree with that, which is odd when they have a striker, Piroe, who’s scored more than Ndiaye and McB and was barely noticeable today.

Liked the crack about Billy being around since football started. 😄

“It’s what we all expected isn’t it. No real point getting excited. This is what happens when you play as an over inflated ego-driven narcssistic novice manager demands.
Today I expected a full misery day.”

“Someone talk me through the benefits of this high risk football we play.
I could understand if we drew players towards us exposing their midfield and allowing us to attack with pace. But we don’t (can’t) do that so it’s pointless but it’s the same every week.”

These lads saw the game, similar to me. I actually found myself frustrated by the fact they kept over playing the ball in their own defensive 3rd even though they were shit at it. Absolutely bonkers. They were the same last season.

They are midtable with a midtable squad. Because the style of football is extreme, people blame it rather than accept it's where they're at.

In the window, they let six players go and brought none in.

The frequent feigning injury in the box and general time wasting was pretty fucking embarrassing on their part today.

Resorting to gamesmanship when you're already losing away from home and have nothing to lose is a sure sign of piss poor character in their squad. It's no surprise that they are where they are.
It’s been a recurring theme with the “footballing” sides we’ve played in recent years both in the championship and the prem.

I think when you rely on having a lot of the ball and playing at a slower tempo teams use shithousing as a way to break up the opponents style of play something other sides rely on tackling and pressing to do. I know what I’d rather see and it does my head in when it’s referred to as the dark arts and pundits talk about teams being good at it. It’s cheating shithousing and if teams need to resort to it I don’t care how pretty their football looks it’s inferior if you need to cheat to win.

In fairness to them they’ve had that same philosophy of how to play football for a long time now if they suddenly decided to change it and bring in a manager who wanted to play a more direct style I think it would implode especially given that they don’t sign anyone.

Martin’s remit is pretty clear to me keep them in the division using low cost signings and academy players whilst playing a brand of football which makes those young players potentially attractive to prem teams so they can be sold for big fees.

To be honest if we dont to go up this year it will be they same as what Hecky will be asked to do.

Call me fussy but the lass in the last ad looked too much like Cilla Black for me

“Well we are the bestest team because we had more of the ball so there”

Yes. Yes of course that how football works.

Interestingly, I think they could bring in a manager and make them much harder to beat. Obviously that would go against the philosophy so it’s not going to happen but they just weren’t difficult to breakdown at all.

Part of it is they’ve had success playing like that before. When Martinez and Rodgers were playing that way and doing well, they got the same plaudits we did for the over-lapping centre-backs.

Games like Rotherham are ones you always look at and think on paper you should win but are actually really awkward and difficult games. Then there are some games in a season you look at and think, this lot are just going to turn up and gift us the game and tbf Swansea are one of those and have been for a couple of seasons.

They could but you could also have a situation like at Norwich or Southampton where the new manager just can’t get a tune out of a squad that’s been built for so long to play one way. I think they’d struggle to get too value for players playing more conservatively as well. They got what they got for Rodon for example because he was a “ball playing” centreback.

Don’t think Swansea are interested in challenging I think it’s just about keeping things ticking over.

Agree 100%, couldn't put it better.

In the end its a futile tactic anyway. "Playing football the Norwich way", as the song goes, only works if you have enough quality in the team to begin with.
Many have tried that crap with us and failed this season. I think we've become much wiser to it in recent times.

There is a big difference between changing to a "direct style" and to stop playing the suicide-ball they attemped yesterday.

I'm all for playing the ball around and looking to create gaps but they simply invite trouble for themselves, which must be infuriating to watch every week. They came last season did excatly the same and got dicked just as badly.

Yeah they could get someone in who isn’t quite as wed to playing in their own third as Martin. I’d struggle to think of someone domestically they could bring in if I’m honest. I remember when Martin was at MK he always felt like a future Swansea boss but I don’t think there’s anyone playing that style in league one atm.

Cheers Roy, always nice to read the view from whilst enjoying my morning ablutions, top work as usual!👍

Roy, i wonder if you have celebrity viewers, this morning ride a white swan - t rex on bbc radio 2 , with jason (welsh and kate ( sheffielder ), not a song ive heard on the playlist before, fame and fortune bekons roy

Under Martin - and it was the same with him at MK Dons - they actually play like you'd expect a kids team to be coached to play if they were instructed like they are mostly on the continent, where results don't matter and you encourage the children to pass the ball even if they make mistakes in the hope that it will be ingrained in them eventually.

I can't see how that translates to professional football unless you've got exceptional players to begin with. Manchester City don't concede many goals so it works for them, but surely someone has come up with how many Swansea have conceded (or what their Xg is) from simply faffing around at the back compared with how many chances it's created for them?

As football has been data driven for some time now that should be a very easy equation.

It also vindicates the much maligned 80s FA Coach Charles Hughes who always said that the best way to goal is to win the ball as high up the pitch as possible, in other words the high press, which is so effective against Swansea. Their fan was right, they have the "risk-reward" profile of a mug punter.

Cheers Panchero!

I think you’re right about it being a developmental approach similar to how you’d coach kids. I think because at the moment their first team is pretty much a development squad in terms of the aim is to develop and sell players.
