They'll be fine but for some to say they was the better side is laughable stats say otherwise. 61% possession and 22 shots we let them have an early spell of the ball then totally took control.

Three points, move on,
Though a physical encounter, many of their challenges/tackles were snidest, many after the ball was gone, and dangerous in the least.
Thank you Roy, UTB

Sunderland played pretty well but the main thing I'd take from them is they were well driven and spirited. Manager clearly told them to get/keep close and make sure your strong in the tackle. They kept a decent press too, and fitness will play into that for a season, all depends if they can keep that up.

They won't be in danger of relegation, perhaps like any team with a run, top 6 isn't out of the equation but somehow think it might be too soon for them this season.
Last night they can also be thankful for not receiving 3 red cards let alone 1.
Yeah the sending off helped us but still felt we would come into it like we did.

I also think had we not given away a cheap goal or scored another ourselves it would have been more comfortable too.

I thought with 11 on the field Sunderland worked tremendously hard to press us and not let us have time on the ball so credit them for that, not sure how long they would be able to keep that style of play going though. That said they didn't give Wes a shot to save their only chance being a very good low cross fizzed in that Wes bravely claimed with their player sliding in. Work rate and getting stuck in is the way Alex Neil's teams play the problem is the higher up the ladder they go the more the over zealous tackling is frowned upon they probably get away with it in league one but not so much in the Championship and definitely not higher up with VAR watching. The cards they did get were deserved and they should count themselves lucky the didn't get another straight red. They guy in the video is right they need more bodies if only to cope with the inevitable suspensions later in the season. It would seem the deludamol is industrial strength in the north east.

I think they did a good job on us in that first 25 minutes and although they didn't create much neither did we. I am not surprised their fans were upbeat because they battled to the end. I thought we looked a bit disjointed but we were starting to look threatening just before the goal. A bit of sloppy play, again, let them in for a well taken goal. Why can't we just put teams to bed - it would have been 4 or five had it not been for their goalkeeper. Instead we, the fans that is, end up being really nervous every time the ball comes up to our goal. A 96th minute corner for the opposition is not what we want. with our track record for late concession of goals!

Limp excuses from them. Two men out - have they seen our injury list??!! They should have finished with 9 men max, and unless they change their ways they'll need a number of loan signings in order to play 46 matches without enforced postponements or cancellations.

There's always a few morons, but the comments were reasonable

I'll always think they're okay for stuffing it down the piggies necks in May

I had an uncontrollable fit of laughter that had me rolling around on the floor when they scored that last minute winner at the rustbucket

So Sunderland are alright with me

Like most (recently) ‘successful’ sides they have a rump of (returning) big balls Bertie’s who think / state they’re going to smash it (again) ‘informed’ by the (end of) the previous season (& what they’ve seen on TV)
Vast majority of their supporters I sup with (deign to speak with) are realistic & comfortable with the idea of staying up / consolidation. They recognise that the squad is thin (as evidenced by League Cup @ Chan Siro)
Collectively (a Clowder of cats) they’re far more tolerable than the skunks (collectively ‘ a Stench)

"if the red never happens we get a result" or McAtee scores given he's through

Comments from Sunderland fans BTL on The Guardian's Championship round-up are very fair. They all seem to think that O'Nien should have gone in addition to Neil.

Go on this You tube and have a laugh

Fair play to their fans, for travelling in numbers, and brilliant atmosphere they brought. Reminded me of us in the 19/20 season 💪
Thanks Roy 👍

Overheard a couple of Sunderland fans this morning saying that the sending off wasn’t a sending off as it wasn’t a clear cut goal scoring chance. I continued to eat my breakfast without comment.

A few comments I've picked up on.

1: Sky were fawning over us and I agree. It reminded me of when we played a Liverpool or Man Utd in the PL.
Everything is about how great those teams are and how spirited and hard working we were.
It was the same last night, thought they were a bit disrespectful towards Sunderland as though they are like a Wycombe Wanderers type side just hoping to stay up.

Sunderland reminded me of us when we first came up. They showed no respect or fear and played some open attacking football.
Think it caught us by surprise but I've no doubt that even at 11 v 11 we'd have still been much much better in the 2nd half kicking against the Kop.

2: Also seen lots of comments from Sunderland fans about the standard of Championship football, some say its high some say it's a poor standard.
They don't seem to have grasped that the standard at the lower end of the table is surprisingly high (suggesting it's a tough league)
whilst the standard at the upper end of the table is surprisingly low (suggesting it's an easy league).

Sunderland were a decent side and have nothing to fear, think they'll finish top half, about 9th.
The key to success in the Championship is all about CONSISTENCY.
There's virtually no outstanding teams this season but lose focus or have a poor game and you'll lose to any team.
Hence why there's often strange results with teams near the bottom beating teams near the top.
