If it had stayed 11 v 11 we'd have won by 4 or 5! They sat in with 9, further helped for them with our injuries and lack of substitutions available (ie none) to change it.

That first sending off I had a great view of the 'foul' for the penalty from the BL upper corner and for me it was 50/50 (if it have been against us I'd have been apoplectic). I thought their defender just got his foot on the ball, then looking at the positioning of the ref I thought, yeah, he's not getting a view of that, he'll see it as a pen. Going on Wilder's comments after it was on his blind side too. To then getting a sending off was just rubbing salt in the wound for them. Thought before he took the resulting pen Sharp would have it saved/or miss it mainly for the sake of justice being done.

Good comfortable win, up in Automatic spots, Shouldve been more easier but that Shrewsbury GK was amazing as it couldve been 6 or 7 without some of them saves he made. Could get used to having 3pts in the bag after 1/2hr haha. What a difference 12 mths makes last November 1 of the most embarrassing defeats in recent history & now this November we've played them of the park today. Shows the amazing turnaround & improvement, But just got to remember to ward against compliancy because it could come back to bite us. We certainly dropped the intensity in the 2nd half as we so far on top, Shrewsbury hardly tested us before that consolation

I think ive mentioned this before but i just cant get on with these minute applause in ?th min, what ever happened to the good old min silences, because without wanting to be horrible in the 7th min, their is a big distraction its called the football game

I might be in the minority but I applaud the fighting spirit of the remaining 9 Shrewsbury players. That is the kind of grit that I would want from our lads in a similar situation.

We have managed 6 out of 6, gratefully received, points from them this season. If they continue to battle for their new manager like that, I would love them to take points from our promotion rivals as opposed to rolling over like they did under their old manager.

It reminded me of when we played Pompey in the 80s when they had three men sent off and us one, Pompey defended like a basketball team and we edged home 1-0. Another similar game was Oldham away in 1991 when we were 2-0 down at half time, had two men sent off and were actually down to 8 men at one stage but 'won the second half' as Shrewsbury fans put it thanks to Deano.

Looking at the highlights, it looks like the ref was going for a yellow for the first booking, but the player gave him a load of verbal so he went with the other card.

Just about to say the same, it looked like a spiteful red that to me

They were dogshit, and played like a bitter sunday morning pub team. How many points do you get for a moral victory? As many as the 6 we took off them?

When it was 11v11 we was bossing it, brilliant football.

At 11 v 9 we bossed the game even more.

It was like a training session, attack versus defence.
At times Shrewsbury had their whole team in and around their area, so there was no space.
It was like watching England versus San Marino.
One of the most one sided matches I've seen and we had a great chance to win 5 or 6-0 to boost our goal difference. So it was a dissapointing scoreline but at least we won.

Agree Ricky.

It was a miracle that they scored 1, there was never any worry they would score 2.

I suppose the main feeling of Shrewsbury fans watching their team was relief.
At half time it looked nailed on to finish 5-0 or more.
We had 30 shots and 20 corners, 2-1 was a totally false scoreline.
We totally annihilated them in chances and possession. Men against boys.

And yet we only beat a relegated cert with 9 men 2-1.
Second half we were one paced, without speed, penetration or ideas apart from a few well worked short corners.
The last 5 minutes were embarressing.
If we had had 9 men and did as well for 45 mins against a vastly superior side we'd be praising our team to the heavens.
Yet we have a problem in Shrews fans doing the same.
Weird.

I was chatting to one of their fans after the game and they feared the worst at half time, he said that he and his mates were going to go to the pub when the expected 3rd goal went in as they couldn't bear to see it go to about 6-0 but they were pleased that they defended best they could and even scored. To be fair, if it had been the Blades in that position, I think I'd have felt the same.

Shrews?
More like sewer rats.
A shame to mammals everywhere.

I think the first may have been for the players reaction and swearing at the referee, which is now a sending off offence, not for the foul.

The foul was still a sending offence, the 'double jeapordy' rule only spares those guilty of accidental fouls.

I disagree: we created plenty of chances in the second half so I don't think it's fair to describe us as "one paced, without speed, penetration". We weren't as fluid or as impressive we have been, but we would have still got a hat full second half if it wasn't for some questionable finishing and inexplicable Shrewsbury heroics.

They defended heroically with nine men which is to be commended but when they start talking about moral victories and winning the 2nd half they start to sound like a set of poor losers.

Not wanting to sound like a twat. But that club and a lot of clubs in this division will never have to deal with the pressure of playing for a team with proper history and success behind them, they can go out and play each weekend without pressure cause basically they've been and are fucking nobodies in the grand scheme of things....

That tackle on coutts was a horror show, and anybody who says otherwise knows fuck all about the game... we move on, and like a few others I'm relieved we won't play those cloggers again this season at least...

It's starting to sound like we're catching swine disease here, with our arrogant "how dare they?" reaction to Shrew's fans perfectly natural response to yesterday's result.
They DID manage to avoid total disaster by result, if not by actual performance and I, as a habitual and long-term 'happy clapper' would do exactly the same.
If we, as fans of Sheffield United FC can't be magnanimous in victory, we are as bad as our 'massive' neighbours.
Why should we sneer at our opponents when WE are enjoying OUR football so much?

I hate to say this to a fellow blade but your post makes you sound like a Wednesday fan. I hope as someone else already said that Shrewsbury carry on with the fighting spirit and take points off our promotion rivals.

'Sheffield can't take much from that. A team they hammered only a month ago just basically humiliated them on their own patch with nine men and dead man up to his old tricks again. I'm surprised they didn't have Wigglesworth running the line.
On the plus side I can't see us not stopping up after that. If ever there was a glory in a defeat that was it and if we can outplay promotional certainties with nine men then surely we can optimistic on survival'

State of that.
Yeah, I felt really humiliated leaving the ground, three points in the bag, and 2nd in table.:D

It has amazed reading the "view from" & twitter, they are amazingly delusional. If that 2nd red was only a yellow i dread to think what passed as red card at gay meadow does the guy have to have fully broken leg, then Shrewsbury calling it a moral 2nd half victory, I'll give fans 1 thing defence did have decent last ditch tackles but they have completely glossed over the fact that because of huge gulf 1st half reminsent of england v malta. We were barely out of 2nd gear all 2nd half & even then we could got 6 at least but for bad luck & inspired goalkeeper

No penetration or ideas aside from Sharp hitting the post, Sharp poking it just wide from a cross that ran through, Done missing a one on one, Chapman heading just over with the goal mouth wide open, to mention just four?

And I'm never embarrassed to spend the last five minutes of a game when we're winning without the opponent taking a touch.

They are football fans from Shrewsbury, their team is in all sorts of trouble. I think, given they played the second half with 9 players, they are entitled to make the best of their loss.

And we got three points.

I was.
