Roy's View From... View From Preston

Yeah, first half they had the better opportunities until the goal, but we attacked them just as much, and in the second half it was no contest. If every chance was scored today it would have ended about 3-5.
The xG timeline often terms a useful story. In this case very similar to your reading of the game. Preston slightly on top, we score, second half no real contest in terms of chances, as we cut out several chances across the half...

It's amazing how many of these teams that say we're nowt special but they were shit on the day. It's almost a patten...

To be fair we were painful to watch until about 5 mins before we scored
Couldn't string two passes together and our crossing was abysmal ,then we settled down ,played like we can ,scored and deservedly won

Another hard fought win with no frills. What were they expecting with only 7 games remaining, fast flowing attacking football? Saying we were solid is music to my ears after last weeks collapse. 6 more solid performances will do for me.

spot on like Keith Edwards said post match & Phil Thompson on soccer Saturday about Liverpool, at this time of the season its the results not the performance that matter

To be honest if you can cut out the unforced errors you will win the majority of championship games. We have sacrificed our 'risk and reward' football since the Villa away game and it has served us very well,we still play to win every game, but we are much less likely to give 'cheap' goals away,i am sure that is what really hurt Wilder about the Brizzle game, all their goals were avoidable !!

Quick one on XG, Beans Blades Analytics - is XG relative to the level you’re playing at. In other words - when something is judged to have a 80% XG rate - is it that 80% of the time those chances are converted at Championship level?

I just can't help thinking it's tempting fate. If we go up , I'll do a Leeds View Special. And a pigs one :)

They would both make for very pleasant reading. It would remind me of the days when you got the green un after a big blades win and you would savour it over the weekend, picking it up at regular intervals on the Sunday and reading it from cover to cover for the umpteenth time with a huge grin on your face.

I would literally have to save the 'views from' and take a week off work to read it over and over again with a fine bottle of rum and a comfy chair.

I've only just put down the 'Blades Glory, Owls Down' Green Un recently.

That's actually a good graphic to describe the game we played yesterday. Where did you come by that ?

Another way of describing the game was that we had both a striker and a goalkeeper who made the crucial difference. Often how it plays out in the Championship.

Preston a strong play off contenders still and will hopefully use some of that pace they showed against us to good effect on Tuesday

The above is just a small part of his output. Genuinely fascinating stuff.

Take a look at the Blues-Leeds graphic. From reports you would think that Leeds might have been hard done by not to win, but in actuality, the side finished even on xG - a draw would have been a fair result.

This is quite funny though...

I keep fucking seeing that same comment and it's starting to annoy me.

When did being solid and hard-working (see also; organised) become a bad thing? Did I miss a meeting?

As far as I know most if not all xG models do not adjust for the level of football. That gives you a true average of how good a chance is and then you can see over a season who is an above-average finisher from their actual goal tallies vs their expected goals.

Cheers Roy. We ground out a result today like winning clubs do. No easy game playing Preston as the facts say so. We were immense. Football fans obviously hate to see their teams lose so the comments from Preston supporters echo this sentiment. We are where we are because we play as a team with some bloody good footballers. So it makes me chuckle when the same old bitterness spews out from the uninitiated.

The two No6s were the best players on the pitch.
Well I don't recall Prestons No6s but ours was awesome mate. Thanks Roy.

In fairness to the Preston lot they’re reasonable comments. We haven’t really been at our swashbuckling, centre half over-lapping, joyful to watch (for a neutral) best - away from home - since the Aston Villa game at the beginning of February.

There’s very good reason for that and the results on the road since that night are the proof. We’ve tightened up, started to go a little more direct and we’re happy to soak up pressure for long spells and trust that our attackers will convert in the big moments.

I expect Wilder to start Duffy in at least 4/6 of the remaining games (expect him to be rested in the away games at Birmingham and Hull due to the fixture pile up). When Duffy plays, from an attacking sense, we’re a different side. He gives us the control we need at the top of the field and that allows us to get the defenders forwards, which creates the overloads and leads to more chances.

Gary Madine and Jack O’Connell will give us another major boost next week. I expect Madine to start on Wednesday.

People that say Duffy was poor yesterday are a bit unfair. We play better with him in the side. I enjoyed the game if a little nerve wracking for the last 20.

McGoldrick xg 0.8 when he stuck one in from 6".

Don't quite know how that rated less than 1 on it's own?

I actually think that this xg thing is a load of bollocks, just a load of numbers creating white noise.

The only stat that actually means anything is AGS (actual goals scored)
