"A smile wider than Chef Evans victim list?" Err that would be one then, pretty mean spirited to only have a one smile after a good win like that!

Pretty unsmug reaction from them all in all. They did a good job on us, I still hate the niggly gamesmanship that you have to put up with from all Simon Grayson sides.

We were poor all ends up.

Davies really irritates the fuck out of me but still, we should have won that. Very poor showing, undone by 3 set-pieces.

Their comments reflect the surprise of the result. They have been on a bad run and expected a routine home win. They drew here in the league but at that time they were doing well.

Depressingly true on the whole... :(

From what i've read, it seems we continue to be poor in defending set pieces. This is something that will need to be addressed from now on. The League is now the only focus and with pretty much 2 games a week for the foreseeable all the squad need to be on the same page.

From the Port Vale game onwards, we have conceded 11 goals. 4 pens, 4 direct free kicks and 2 from corners. Only Erikson's second was from open play.
Our team is so small, I can see why we concede goals from set plays......although Davies should have scored yesterday from open play after Basham's mistake.

that's really poor, isn't it? Every one of those goals was effectively down to a foul or a mistake.

We are poor at set pieces - we very rarely take advantage of a corner, free kick or throw in (Southampton excluded) and yet always look vulnerable when defending the same.
If I can see it, along with many others on here, why can't Mssrs Clough, Garner and Morgan - Throw Ins and Free Kicks are an embarrassment - nobody seems to know what they are supposed to do !!

They battered us mate

But never looked like scoring from open play other than when Davies hit the post. I can't think of another real chance from open play that they had.

As I said above. It was very poor from us because we had many opportunities to make it 2-0

Absolutely, the first half finished too soon for us.

They completely dominated us in every area of the park for nearly all of the 90 mins .
Our goal was our first attempt on goal and they could have easily been 3-0 up by half time
easily

Not this season they didn't. We beat them 2-1.

They were certainly the better side on the night, reflected in the score, but during the first half I did feel it was a fairly balanced, see-saw, cup tie. Mrs HB was at home tending to the poorly HB Jnr and I was reviewing the texts I sent her. They could have been a couple of goals up and we were riding our luck, but by the end of the first half we were dominating them and could have had a clear lead. Second half they put the pressure on and once we conceded to a set play I am afraid the writing was on the wall. The last part of the match was a non-event. "Concentrate on the league" "bigger fish to fry" so often the response to a Cup exit, but for us, where we are right now, it is certainly true.

Dominated?? Here's the stats...

Whilst I agree they were the better side, they hardly dominated us in every area did they.

Don't let facts get in the way of a moan though.

I'm not moaning mate they were better than us in every area of the park
isn't that domination ? You know possession stats can be very misleading

Murphy goal was our first attempt they had had loads including a great one handed save from Howard and davies hitting the post when he should have scored

Every one sat around me said the same we weren't in it first half and mugged them at half time to be one up

I have to say Judge reading Biancas' stat attack, it backs your point up better than his own. It's not a moan to say we got well and truly whooped. They could have been 3-0 up by the time we scored by my understanding.

Glad to hear it mate
I'm definitely not trying to have a pop
first time I've sat on the kop for a long time and you get a strange view but that was my opinion and that of my brothers and every one around me
I actually thought we'd hamer them second half and though we looked more lively for me they had the better of it in all areas and at 1-0 the good play we did create was usually wasted by a poor final ball

So how many shots did Howard save? And what about Harris's block? They could have got five.

I'd agree with that.

Or to look at it another way...

They had 2 more shots than us but were far more cynical with them.10 on target as opposed to our 5.

We were poor but the main difference though was in front of goal, our shots went wide and theirs were on target. If that means we were "dominated" then so be it. I would say our forwards had an off day and Howard had a good day.

They scored three and hit the post with Howard well beaten - If you check our 'stats' throughout the season we very rarely have more shots on target than the opposition !
Cows Arse and Banjo comes to mind with our shooting - McEverley nearly hit the corner flag with one of his 'shots' - Embarrassing !!
