So you basically agree with what they're saying??
Hamer didn't have his best game, and was backed by, Blaster- £0, Brooks-£0, O'Hare- £0, Moore- £1.5m, Burrows- £2.8m, Gilchrist -£loan, Robbo- £----, Davis- £1.50p, Souzza - £8m, Anel- £4m...... not £70m there pal.....

Our SQUAD may have cost £70m.... but remember we massively over paid for Brewster.

You're maybe getting a little bit carried away. Firstly, it was only a couple of Preston fans who were under that mistaken impression, but - for most of the list you have there, we're only able to play the likes of Hamer, O'Hare, Moore, Burrows, Souza et al because we can afford to pay them a lot more than clubs like Preston.

It's not all about transfer fees. Any Championship footballer is an extremely well-paid individual. Over the course of a 4 year contract the average player will cost around£2m in salary and oncosts, and our best players will be way more than that.

That, at least, is a direct financial result of our recent Premier League humiliations and we shouldn't forget that it's why we're competitive in this division.

Squad, you said Team. And I know what it cost, but Trusty didn't play, and the rest I agreed with.
How does our Squad compare to Leeds, Burnley, Luton, or any of the others??
Do you think weve "Bought the league"??
I think you’re completely missing the point entirely! We have spend a vast amount of money assembling a squad compared to clubs like Preston have spent. Our squad cost something like 5/6 times what Preston’s cost so we should expect to beat them. Although buying the league is a bit of a stretch I can understand the point they are making.

This game really highlighted what a disaster footy finances are. PNE lose millions each year just to survive in the league. We’ve dropped into the league as an historically dreadful team with a shambolic ownership situation and a recent history of financial rule breaching.

Yet we have the option to recruit chelsea loanees and the best championship freebies. Whilst PNE can only really recruit league 1 players and career restoration projects.

The whole thing needs completely ripping up.

Yeh parachute payments have created a pyramid in the second tier between teams that have them and those that don’t. We’re on a completely different financial footing to Preston but if we don’t go back up within 2 years we will become like them and won’t be able the recruit the types of players we have done this summer.

Yes matey, agree, and know exactly what your saying, I was eluding to the fact that we definitely have not "bought the league", we were in the prem, which requires the players we have previously acquired, and that didn't work, as for that league, we massively underspent for last season, as we all saw first hand.
We are a result of our success over the past 6 years, which, we deserved!
And we started in league 1 with frees and loans, exactly like this season, with a smattering of more expensive players.

It's stupid the money that they're earning, in any other industry salaries like this would be regulated out of it (except for their Eton CEO and stock market trading drinking buddies of course)

To be a multi millionaire you should be among the very best at what you do, but a League Two player who never gets any higher than League Two in a 15 year career will retire in his mid thirties and be a millionaire having spent his young life being pretty shit at what he does.

We've had too, weve been in a different league!??
Our club in the prem was a laughing stock, and since then, we've lost 15 players!
You missed the point of my initial post, which was, we definitely have not.
I know what the Squad cost, I also know its very thin, and that having a couple of players that cost £20m, does not a team make!
The fact that you jumped onto my post, in defence of some moaning Preston fans, is totally your perogative, im sticking with my own opinion, no point missed, you pointed out something I already know, I also know, we haven't bought the league.

Thanks Roy. I bet you have hated having to serve us gruel for the whole of last season, but now you can serve us honey all the way! Great song choice too.

I think they were fair for the most part, but I want more hand wringing & salty tears, we are not there yet.

I think it's an overly simplistic way of looking at it. United's squad now (and the Hecky promotion squad) is largely a result of Wilder's miracle promotion to the Prem, and the miracle 9th placed finish - all things that the likes of Preston can hope to emulate with their current models. The Wilder promotions were funded by player sales and bargain acquisitions. These are all things that Preston could and should do. Everything that's happened since was down to the initial sales of Ramsdale, Adams, Calvert Lewin, David Brooks - and the Kyle Walker sell on clause. Not Prem money or big benefactor investment.

United made one permanent acquisition (Anel) in five windows before last summer's transfer window.
Souza and Hamer (our headline acquisitions last summer) were bought with the Ndiaye and Berge money. The current squad has little in terms of big "prem money" acquisitions - they've almost all left at this point. The headline name is Brewster, who has offered very little thus far: Preston didn't lose to us because Brewster played a few minutes at the end of the game 🤣.

A lot of the squad is once again made up of a new crop of academy lads (Arblaster, A Brooks, Seriki, Peck,, Marsh, Norrington Davies). The rest has been funded by big academy player sales in Osula and Jebbison (£0 investment has become £11.5 million) and the sale of Bogle (Lowe and Bogle were bought as a package for 3 million and sold for 6 million). Traore has also gone for about what we paid for him (3-4 million).

The hand wringing of the likes of Preston betrays a lack of research.

Bought the fuckin league 😂😂😂
Christ don’t some people never listen to the media outside their little hobbit towns . We are the poster boys for skint
That's what happens when you pick up a player like Callum O'Hare for "free." Morons that don't do their research assume you must have paid big bucks for him.

That’s a very simplistic view. Weve brought players in like Gilchrist, O’Hare, Moore, Souttar and potentially Rak-Sakyi because we can afford to pay high wages due to Parachute payments. Do you think teams like Preston would be able to compete with what we can offer? Also once the parachute payments stop do you think we can still bring in players like Gilchrist and O’Hare?

Cheers Panchero!

That's all the result of player sales (especially those that cost £0) and Wilder's promotions with positive net spends and the 18th lowest wage bill in the championship (promotion bonuses aside). If Preston or Wednesday emulate that they'll be able to bring in those players on those wages. If United continue to sell players for huge money they'll continue to be able to attract players if they reinvest.

O' Hare I'd put in a different pot entirely btw. United have brought in a serious asset for one year's wages (if they choose to sell). It's a very astute business decision if profit is the motivation. His value as an asset is bigger than the investment in wages.

Honestly, I'm the first to bitch and moan about big teams like City having so much cash they're literally unreachable but if fans are seeing us as a team that's "bought the league", for now, I love that.

It's not really true nor is it how I want us to be perceived but after what we dealt with last season. Just... Just let me have this for a bit.

Sorry about this. Because the site was getting so many views, Wordpress started putting adverts everywhere so I bought the website outright. I get a bit of money now from the ads but if it’s effecting the website then I’ll try and scale it back
Making money from fellow Blades?????
That’s not going to go down well. 😜
Oh and thanks. Keep up the good work.

Spurs, Everton, Palace etc will have all done exactly the same. Sold players and bought others to compete at their level. It didn’t stop us saying exactly the same thing last season about them as Preston are saying about us now!

However it’s occurred we have one of the biggest wage bills in the league and 1 of our players costs more than their entire team!

Lends a few quid

I remember when we played Fulham last year and fans were bitching about the amount of talent they had on their bench. Now Preston are saying the same about us and fans are calling them ridiculous. We can’t have it both ways. We’re financially a big hitter in this league.

“Filthy midfield partnership” 👍

I hope we see more of the ‘bought the league’ comments because it will mean we are beating most teams, so hopefully get used to it 😊

I am with those who think it’s an understandable comment tbh. Wilder, and we, often highlighted the differences in squad value, transfer fees and wages when we were on the way up from L1 and beyond, and will do it again if we face richer teams. That’s football.

Number of ads seems fine to me Roy, if it genuinely gets like ‘The Sheffield Star’ I’m sure folk will let you know 👍

Anyone else reckon Roy’s in tekkover consortium now he’s getting paid for the adds?

We were told technology was at the forefront and they’d got links to UK

I liked the post that's critical of the website, but... I clicked on an advert, like I always do in Blades sites. Hopefully you all do too.

It's not that long ago we were on an equal footing with Preston if they want to pay more in wages then, I suggest they increase their income a few stints in the richest league in the world and some academy player sales should do it
