Considering we both 1, won by 2 goals and 2, was considered by that one fan to be "bang average" after having perhaps a training session or two to gel is an unreal start.

The adoration for Brooksy too is unavoidable, that boy whilst is Sheffield quality for now will soon go on to better things. He danced his way through the box and laid it off to (was it OHare?) who couldn't quite get his feet right. Lovely stuff.

Improvements are needed but fuck me it's weird to be optimistic about United. The gulf is insane.

I have to say that I was very surprised with just how poor they were. We played really well at times and deserved to win by more, but they were so sloppy in possession and limited going forward. That keeper is a bomb scare too.

That’s their problem though, we take the win and gel together more as a team.

Gilchrist and Burrows for me looked very comfortable.

The comments about us "buying the league" are nonsense.
We've brought in anywhere between £20-30m in transfer fees and spent less than £5m.
We've lost 19 players (a lot of our biggest hitters on unfortunate freebies) and brought in 7 (3 frees, 2 loans, 2 perms).

We are beneficiaries of parachute payments, sure. But that's only because we dragged ourselves out of League 1 in 2016 and then up to the PL within 2 seasons. Our budget would have been similar to Preston's (or less) when Wilder achieved that feat.
We somehow finished 9th in our first season up there, then relegated, then back up again within two seasons.

So yes, our turnover has been much higher than a side like Preston's over the last 5 years and we have had to adjust our budget upwards to compete at the levels we've been playing at. But none of that is "unfair."
We got there through merit and we're always only a couple of seasons away from combustion if we don't get things right on the field.

Coventry and Middlesbrough are going to be competitive this season and neither have had any unfair advantage on Preston. Will they be moaning again next season when Ipswich are able to outspend them? An Ipswich side that went down to L1 the day we went to the PL in 2019?

Are their fans just bored after decades of stagnation?

Very true. When you think of all the drama we have had since 2016 with promotions and relegations; meanwhile Preston have been stuck in the Championship for all that period.
