Some of their negative comments about their own side tell a story. They played well, as the home side having more possession as you'd expect and at times we were hanging in there. They had some chances, but as Wilder said after the game, they didn't put us to bed.
I don't think it was a true smash and grab though and whilst we looked like we had moments where we shat the bed, it wasn't a proper domination... But to be thinking a draw would be a fairly alright result, away from home, against a side that we don't have a great record against at their place, to come away with a win and no red cards, i think that's a decent result.
It looked like we set up to play on the counter rather than match them for possession and dominate them, something we've had success with under Wilder. Though we didn't just go with one up top, which is encouraging.
Its been a strange week. Against Boro we probably played better, were unlucky not to be ahead early in that game, fought back to 1-2 and just couldn't quite find something at the end, came away with nothing. Travel to Pompey, rode our luck, but keep a clean sheet and take all three points. Not saying that Pompey were on the same level as Boro, they weren't. But it does show how tight this league can be.
As for their fans comments that it was a must win game. Not sure it was, they'll face worse sides who are out of form which they should be beating. I think for them (and us) yesterday was always going to be a hard game. I think they'll do alright though. They looked pretty solid and can't see on that performance how they're down in there.
And our fans seemed to be noisy throughout on the comms.
