It’s strange that this parachute payments thing has now become widely accepted as the biggest injustice in football. You rarely hear complaints that winning the Premier League and Champions League attracts a big cash prize that sets you up to remain at the top, why is it so different in this league? It’s a really lazy take, particularly from the fans of the jealous wannabe clubs likeCoventry and Wednesday. They would sell their own mothers to be in receipt of these payments!

"they’ll stick with the gremlin and play that"

Keep feeding wilder with water after midnight....
BTW Roy.....how's the cull going...managed to dodge two of ya sniper shots......

Ohhh......ferk.......ouch
Cheers

In fairness for years people have talked about how the CL money had created a Big 4, then a Big 6.

The recent exploits of Villa, and likely Forest, and the collapse of Man U, have to an extent masked that imbalance.

Now, instead of a Big 6, you have effectively a Huge 7/8 and then Big 9/10. An almost closed shop of 17 teams, one of Erin's would have to have an absolute travesty of a season to end up going down.

Hence, the talk of imbalance has shifted to the top of the Championship (because taking about the importance at the bottom of the PL brings too many questions) as for a long time a team with a decent set up, but not necessarily cash rich, could make the dream and go up (see us, Ipswich).

The rest of the Championship are now looking at Soton, Leicester and Ipswich and quite rightly wondering how any of them will challenge them next year.

The noise will only get worse. I don't see a way out of this without PL2 rearing it's head again (2 divisions of 18) - which might help in the short term but will only shift the problem down 16 places or so. (Because the real answer, a note even distribution of the PLTV money across the whole league is never going to happen)

Roy, can you please answer my calls and texts. I miss you. It was a mistake. Today has made me realise you're the one.

Cheers Roy.

“Parachute payments.. it shows why we need to go up even we get battered, the cash is massive and buys you a top six places the next season"

Hi, Luton here can we have a chat please
We went from a league one club to 9 th in the prem without a penny of parachute money .We earned our parachute money playing league one players thanks to Wilder picking up players for next to nothing who were freebies or towards the end of their contract ,IN other words good management . Luton did the same . Fed up with all this parachute crap ,we did it and others can do it as Luton did .Not our fault if other clubs managers are not up to it .

“If Sheff United have any sense they’ll stick with the gremlin and play that counter attacking style in the prem next season. Might give them a 5% chance of staying up versus no chance if they sack him and try to play total football.”

“They’re the best counter-attacking side in the league – far too much quality and pace in transition. Think Lampard got it tactically wrong continuing his philosophy. I understand why he did it but teams get points from Sheff U by giving them the impetus which they struggle with”

These 2 are interesting viewpoints.
Think the reason we won so easily is because Coventry were so confident and came to play Man City style patient tippy tippy possession football.
In the 1st 20 minutes Coventry were like the home team, whereas we sat back easily soaking up the pressure then counter attacking with conviction.
They’d have been better parking the bus trying to frustrate us….then quickly counter attack us like Leeds did in the late stages.

This season in the Premier League, Peps Man City style isn’t as successful. Where as Nottingham Forest don’t worry about a lack of possession.
They play like we did against Coventry, sit back soaking up pressure then have quick counter attacks and that style has given them big success.

Made me think that any promoted team trying to play open expansive football seems doomed to failure.
So maybe our and Burnley more solid/ negative style might be the key to staying up.
You can bet Wilder and Knill will have already been thinking about the prospect of PL football and how we’re going to tackle it. He’ll also have a great idea regards what’s needed….you can bet he’d much prefer an effective Hamza Choudhury instead of talented luxury player like McAtee.

Oh dear, aren't they a sour bunch.....
If only Coventry wasn't such a dull forgettable shit hole.
You've seen United, now fuck off home.

Wheeerrz view from JayGreen???

Thanks Roy.

I am sat here enjoying the fact that for them, admitting we are superior must have really, really hurt them.

They really are a strange bunch, very similar to the snort beasts. So confident pre match only to be put in their place post match.

I never see our fans (on here) as confident or bigheaded before a match. There are a few, but not like the numbers we see from other fan bases.

Let's see what the Oxford fans say ore match although today be fair, they're not too bad at home so will be a tricky game.

I love it, In all walks of life it’s sometimes a good thing to be underestimated…Especially by people who have their own delusions of grandeur…The take down is amazing.

Our fanbase are mostly a glass half empty regardless of who we play. We expect the worst and hope for the best.

Most Wednesday and Coventry fans are the opposite they expect the best and deny the worst will ever happen.

and Ipswich. All this proves it is possible to get promoted from the championship without parachute payments. Clubs like Wednesday and Coventry choose to ignore this!
