Two out of two. After McEwan had resigned after the 5-0 home defeat to Oldham and before Bassett was appointed. The 1-0 FA Cup win against Maidstone and the 2-1 win at Bournemouth in the league
The story I heard at the time is that Danny was under the impression he would get the job if he did well but we had already lined Bassett up.

Why is Billy taking penalties ?. Those two from Baxter were how they should be taken, especially the first, tucked away beautifully into the bottom corner.

It's not been the sackings, but the timing of them that raise eyebrows, Blackwell should have gone at the end of the previous season not five days before the transfer window shut.

Wilson should have been given the rest of that season, utterly pointless getting rid when we did,

Clough should have been gone on the bus home from Swindon.

Sharp is not Adkins' son but treats him like one

I read in Bassett's first autobiography that one of his backroom staff was criticising Bassett's ideas on how the team should play to some of the Wendy coaching staff. Howard Wilkinson then told Bassett about it and in summer 1988 Bassett got rid of the person who had been criticising him. Was it Danny Bergara, Phil Henson or Ian Bailey?

The 4th goal is easily one of the most shambolic I've ever seen conceded by a team. It was like watching school football

I thought that, but then I watched the video of us tonking Spurs (in the 'Scoring/Conceding 6' thread) and the first goal in that game, in particular, is even worse. Indeed, most of the goals in that game were shocking. Have a look, a short corner is rolled into Carr, two defenders run past him, he turns under no pressure and finds the far top corner.

Scougall's goal was terrible from a County point of view, though. First of all there is no pressure on the player receiving the short corner, then someone fails to step up to catch Scougall offside, then he wanders into the area unabated, then Alan Smith, of all people, just stands and watches instead of closing him down. Absolutely a team that had given up.

Even the bit where they berate each other after letting the opposition score was half-hearted.

Even the JCR run was laughable. the last bit where he had a country mile to get passed his defender.
