Look at the goals Varney scored yesterday. Pace. That's all that happened - he ran faster than the defenders and kicked it towards the goal.

Football really is that simple at times but our simpleton manager can't see it and thinks Evans is the man to score goals in a team that cannot pass the ball to a striker's feet.

Blackwell Out. Please Trevor, I'm begging you!!!!

PS - he then moans about lack of resources. I wish I could interview him and ask him to list how many CCC clubs without a parachute (or even with one) have spent £3m on a striker recently. Plus £2m on Hendo.

KB is clearly limited - his tactics are dire & his inability to see the importance of pace is baffling. However, which other club has sold its 4 best players in the last 12 months? Beattie, Naughton, Walker & Killa. McCabe & the Board are at least as much to blame as KB.

I take all that on board Deano but McCabe is often at great pains to stress that our budget is still very high in CCC terms. I don't think Blackwell has used it very well at all.

I can accept not going up, no problem at all. What I find unaceptable is the lack of entertainment, pace and creativity.

6th place, chance of the play offs and an outside chance of the automatic places. All this whilst having to sell to balance the books.

You're right,we are in a terrible state at the moment aren't we !

If Blackwell went, who would come in his place and do a better job at the moment ?

Our budget is indeed better than most, but that's less pertinent than the upheaval caused by how far it has had to drop. The fall is horribly steep and unforgiving. Even if the figure remains relatively healthy in Championship terms, the drop forces us to ditch any player on Prem wages and sell the likes of Naughton to pay for the gamble of the Robbo reign.

If we could have sold our entire squad upon relegation and replaced it with younger, cheaper players of promise, then I'm sure we'd be better off now.

But the world just ain't like that. We've had to handle the transition over the course of the last 18 months and as such we've little continuity. In that context Blackwell has done well.

If only the style was there I reckon Blackwell would be hailed by almost all of us as a good manager.

Blackwell the inept has completely changed the first team squad (how many are left from the playoff final?) and still got us in currently in the top 6 despite the injury crisis.

His tactics may not be expansive or exciting but they seem to be effective. I don't think that can be argued against. I think the guy is a cock but how many people could lose 8 or so players from a playoff final squad and then get their side in the playoffs next season spending very little money?

Agree with a lot of these posts sadly. Ive completely swapped camps now. Backed KB to the end of the earth a few months ago. Im a complete convert now - the football gets worse every week.

As for Ched, ive been less than impressed with him but something tells me he would start scoring in a side that passes the ball. You wont see the best of him until there is a change of management. I have nothing personal against the manager but his approach is poor at the moment. His resources arent that stretched! He has a good squad of players in the main!

I agree with what you say somewhat but Blackwell did have 3 million to spend on a striker...

I think we are quite similar to Stoke, play ugly but mostly effective football.

Ah, but you're missing the genius of the man. By playing a system that means Ched couldn't even score at one of Darren's parties, he's ensured we'll never have to pay the full £3m.

That sir, is a bargain.

:)

How foolish of me to think that a thread with the Subject of a Blades striker and a pig striker would be anything other than a "Blackwell out Thread".

While I would agree that KB has often had the rug pulled out from under him, he's not on his own (Neil Warnock, anybody?). However his 'style' is rubbish given that he still has - on paper - a very useful squad.

And as for all this talk about 'we're still in 6th place', well that's as reliable statistic as 'we're out of recession', 'unemployment is falling' etc.

We've proved, with over half the season gone, that we can't get points off the upper teams (and with Newcastle, Forest and Cardiff away to come, how many points will we get out of those games) so will drift between 6th & halfway, with no chance of the play offs.

Blackwell spend £750,000 on Ched, and I'd rather have Ched in my team everyday of the week.

I'm sure you were the guy who said we spent £3 Million on him. You wouldn't move on, you were sticking 100% to your statement that he cost the full 3 Million.
Now he has dropped to £2.25 Million, I reckon if we give him till the end of the season we will be under a million. What do you reckon?
Also he isn't paid for his goals, which is a shame that some of you can't see there is more to a forwards game than scoring goals. It's like rating Walker by how many goals are scored against us.

I'd much prefer Varney in the side to Evans, Ignore Blackwell (I can't help it - although it is a serious point about the lack of pace in the team), who would you prefer to have up front? A striker who can burst past a defender and score or a striker who just stands their, makes a few nice passes every now and again and generally gives defenders their easiest game of the season?

Nice one Micalijo. Can't you just put a standard Blackwell out statement into your signature, it'd save you repeating yourself.

I haven't seen enough of Varney but if he has pace to burn then its always an asset. But Darren Huckerby, Michael Bridges, Kabba and Littlejohn all had pace which worked at times, but had little else and their careers faded fast.

Would he fit into our team? Perhaps, a striker needs service. Rooney's fantastic goal was 50% Rooney's run, but 50% Nani's pass.

To be honest, from what i've seen of Ched I like him, his scoring record is poor, but I think he's an intelligent player.

There are so many other factors involved

We have Camara, Hendo, Ched, Cresswell and Wardy all good players, but I don't think we've settled on a pairing, I struggle to see that anyone fits comfortably alongside Hendo (something I also thought the same with BT as well), thats not a criticism of Hendo.

I have sympathy with the midfield, they are expected to play off the striker in a 4-5-1 one week and then next they're expected to get the ball wide and use the wings to get the ball behind the back four. Its a consequence of constantly chopping and changing things due to tactics, injuries/ suspensions etc.

I like Hendo, but I don't think he's mobile enough for what we want.

Ideally, I'd like to see Camara or Ward given a run alongside Ched. Or Ched and Cresswell.
