VAR VAR

The ref clearly stopped Fleck with his initial control of the ball, then blocked him from making a challenge. I’d commented earlier on that the ref had a nice tyre around his midriff, the twat needs to lose some weight so he can move quicker.

The offside VAR rule is beyond a joke. Won’t change this season but I think it will afterwards.

With Aguero's goal, the FA need to ask the question: 'had the ref not been there, would Fleck have received the ball and controlled it?'

The answer is obviously 'yes', so the ref influenced the outcome. There's no fucking grey area here, no doubts or debates. His position gave Man City their goal.

The other one is Moussets: If in one game the assistant referee raises his flag to give an offside and it affects the outcome, and does not raise his flag in another game and it fails to affect an outcome, what is the fucking point of assistant referees? IN one game it gave a goal against us, in the other it cancelled a goal out. How the fuck are they expecting Sheffield United fans to react to that?

Minus seven now with VAR.

The only way the PL will listen is if fans have a protest such as not going to a match and it would have to be done across the whole league. It won't happen will it, because fans want to support their clubs.
Got to find a way of supporting the club and pissing off the premier league. Turn up to the games however on the 85th minute every game, everyone stands up and walks out. They won't like empty stadiums

I actually think the goal may also be down to VAR. He puts the whistle to his mouth but then sees city are through. He probably did this as they are expected to let play finish before blowing and let VAR sort it if needed. However in this case it wasn't the job of VAR to overrule the ref. I think he made the mistake of thinking VAR would sort it for him.

Doubt they would give a fuck on that and also not fair to the players.

The fat cats need to take control because the silly ref boys like Riley are more concerned with dotted lines than the game.

Always said it refs do not understand football and the meaning of the game. The PL should appoint ex players to ref games.

First time I've seen the Mousset one and that is a true fucking sickener.

This sort of shit couldn't be more against the spirit of the game and general common sense.

The referee obstruction was more influential than almost any time the ball strikes a referee - for which they always stop the play.

What is so scary about applying common sense?

Every club in the richest league in the world are singing it every game "it's not football anymore"

So when is someone going to change this abomination?

VAR is meant to improve the game, that dick Riley and his cronies are making it a farce.

Fuck Brexit - this is far more important.

The issue as I’m sure you’re aware is that the technology is not accurate to the degree it’s being applied. If it was maybe I could live with it but at the frame rate we have you cannot be 100% certain to the cm which it is currently trying to be. “Clear and obvious” has to be that in my opinion. In my day the benefit of the doubt went with the attacking side.
Why would you have a system that actively reduces the instances of goals which is the whole point of the game.
Whatever you say to the contrary you are not convincing me that in the way it is currently being used it is fit for purpose.
This is not a Blades thing this is a football thing. You have obviously been watching as long as me or longer given your name, can you really hand on heart tell me this is enhancing the game or viewing experience?

I have consistently said the offside RULE needs tweaking because armpits and toenail lines are ridiculous but yes I really welcome VAR. I think a few months will see it well bedded- in . In the past I have watched so much football where the referee decided the points with his errors.

Unfortunately our referees are well capable of errors even on 5 screens. They will improve or will be demoted, they are in the spotlight like never before and with nowhere to hide.

Next season it will all be fine. I square the technology supposed weaknesses with the belief it is the same for all teams and the knowledge it will inevitably be improved.

There is no one to protest to. Unless every clubs fans petition their clubs to protest to the league.

In my opinion Sian Massey is a great lino ,one of the best but that one she missed in our favour today in the second half was RayTinkleresque

At some point, common sense has to prevail.

At some point, common sense has to prevail.

I expect common sense will lead to change in the rules BUT both decisions were technically correct.
People have short memories....before VAR refs were constantly making mistakes and needed help.
Also remember how players were always diving to con the ref.....that’s become much less this season...there’s no point in cheating.
Also remember how players used to always crowd and intimidate the ref to influence future decisions...that hardly happens now.

Its now definitely a fairer game but far from perfect, delays, communication and close offside decisions seem to be the issues.
I’m sure VAR will be reviewed in the Summer and changes brought in next season to improve the game.

I've got to measure up for some new roller blinds in the morning. Anybody own a flag they can come around and wave so I can get a vague idea of the width I'll need.

Well I have read every argument for and against VAR and at first I thought it would even the game up by not favouring the top clubs which has been a criticism levelled at referee's for a number of years. What actually happens now is the VAR referee sat in a room miles away stops the game and checks the video for any thing that he can to favour the top or established Premier League clubs it is beyond a joke. The good goal we had disallowed at Tottenham the length of time taken to check McBurnie's equaliser v Man Utd when all the previous goal were not looked at Pukki's effort yesterday Mousset's goal tonight it certainly looks like the top clubs get the decisions where ever possible. It's bollocks I'm fast losing interest in the game at a time when we have the best team I have seen in my lifetime, that can't be right.

The idea that VAR wouldn't benefit the top teams is another thing I railed against from the start. Better, faster, players can push small edges where others can't. Smaller teams with slower players and worse timed runs will get caught more often by narrow offside calls. Lesser defenders won't get away with the little shoves and niggles that they used to keep out top attackers.

Whenever you remove elements of chance from a game it always benefits the more skilled players. People say the big decisions go in favour of the bigger teams, and I'm sure to some extent they do, but today was a day where we would've had a goal and instead this ridiculous VAR has not only killed the joy of the sport but gone well against us.

Don't know if you're a follower of Formula 1 but a few seasons ago, probably about 2013 or so, they changed the qualifying format to something so obtuse not even the teams knew how it worked, leading to one session where I think all bar one car missed qualifying entirely.

It lasted about 7 races before they reverted back to the way it was.

Unfortunately we live in a post Brexit world where if it doesn't quite work you cut various bits of your face off to spite yourself and carry on.

I'm surprised you believe this. Do you think that the outcome would have been the same had the ref not been on top of Fleck who was trying to receive the ball? I think the vast majority recognise that if the ref is in an appropriate position, a professional player in England's highest league controls that ball easily and clears the danger.

Only if they call me.

It's funny really isn't it?

Ref gets in the way for a second. So what happens?

It falls to....... Kevin De Bruyne.

Who is perfectly placed to play a through ball to....... Sergio Aguero.

Correct. The current "rules" dictate that the ref can shit on the ball as it passes, radically changing its direction because "the refs body didnt directly interfere with play" and still play will be allowed to continue...

Or so the shite I have seen today (and been justified) would suggest
