I’ll nail my colours to the mast her and say its bollocks, but maybe worth debate.

Have a look at the video and then apply it to our goal against Hull.

The offside was supposed to be for RB not TC but the lino didn’t raise the flag until the ball was in the net and then he indicated TC's position for the offside.

Conspiracy Theory: was the match being watched on a monitor (new system being tested) and the lino told to flag offside, he hadn’t seen anything so flagged the wrong player?

Potentially unpopular view: I’d much rather we were diddled on our ‘goal’, and then rogered like the proverbial cabin boy for their second, than have had VAR operating in the ground and possibly rescued a point.

We’ve benefited from questionable decisions this season, and we’ve lost out to them too. It’s a game of mistakes. Including mistakes made by officials.

Fuck VAR.

I absolutely hate VAR. If ever I find going to Meadowhell on a Saturday a better option than going to the footy it will be because of VAR. Two very tight decisions (our 'goal' and Dull's 2nd) however the officials made the decisions and we get on with it. When Campbell scored I celebrated for like 2 seconds before my mate said "fuck sake, flags up. Offside". Then I cursed, questioned how close that must have been but got on with watching the game. I wasn't celebrating for 1 minute, then waiting another 4 or 5 to see if it was a goal or not. That is fuckin horrible. Ok on this occasion it would have been in our favour, but at the end of the day things tend to even themselves out.

The answer - simplify the offside rule so it can more easily be applied (like back in the old days) and let the officials do their job. They will be correct 90% of the time, which is good enough for me!

I wouldn't have agreed with this a few years ago, but I do now.

VAR obviously gets more right than it does wrong but it's still doesn't stop all wrong decisions, and that's before you factor in the delays and the spoiled spontaneity.

Most of us are hypocrites when it comes to our teams - we'll happy accept bad decisions going for us but throw the teddies out when they go against us.

Look at how many stated this decision cost us the game and flattered Hull (I agree if the goal had stood it may have been a different outcome but not guaranteed imho). Yet if the game had been reversed and we had won 3-0 but Hull had had that same goal disallowed, the same fans would have been in uproar at anyone suggesting we shouldn't have won.

Based on how many bad key decisions I've seen over the years, especially against us, I was all for VAR but I've now changed my mind.

You clearly haven't watched much football with VAR if you think it could have made an offside decision that quickly.

That’s a fair assumption given the post, but I’ve been watching the Blades for over 50 years now and I don’t have a clue about the handball rule, offside rule or VAR these days

So I don’t think watching loads of football and understanding the rules are too closely connected 🤷‍♂️.

The obvious flaw in that argument is that he flagged the right player, RB on the far side. (By "right", I mean the only man who might have been off.)

VAR was brought in to help referees but referees with VAR available seem to make more mistakes than when they don't have VAR available.

Other than our "goal" against Hull and Sunderlands disallowed second against Derby, Bassettes elbow on Anel, have there been many other really bad decisions this season?

I'm not invested in other teams like I am with United so I'm not sure what their games have been like but it doesn't seem like there has been many serious refereeing mistakes this season 🤔

the hull lad on the near side played brewster onside showed it plainly on sky even hinchcliffe said it wasnt offside just a bad decision by the linesman

They can't get var right in premier league (with supposedly best officials), can you imagine the shitshow it would be in the league below!

And who would be paying for it all to be installed? Chamionship/league one clubs can't afford to do that due to losses and tight financial regs.

Just to add to the feelings of conspiracy, or confirm the voices in my head. I didn't celebrate at all because it was clearly already called offside. I heard the whistle go even before it got to Campbell. True story that. I was actually worried the ref would book him.
