Bang on match report, when the manager doesn't give a flying fuck about the game it obviously feeds down to the players, and because we all know the manager has no interest, we also as a fanbase naturally lose interest, hence the crowd, I lasted till about 55 mins and fucked off, I won't go on a rant about it but it doesn't half piss me off just writing cup competitions off like he does.

As I say, it's interesting that Everton were able to pull in such a big crowd, against "uninspiring" opposition, on the back of a somewhat unsuccessful season so far, on a Thursday night.

I also worry that some fans want their prophecy fulfilled. Rather relishing the fact it was shite. Because they had previously gone on record as saying they weren't going because it would be shite.

I could hear Wilder shouting from my seat in the John Street stand. Was urging them to get the ball forward quickly. Far too ponderous on the ball and ended up getting caught in possession repeatedly. Probably because none of them had any idea what they were supposed to be doing with it.

I’ve no problem with the team put out last night given the circumstances but it seemed fairly obvious they hadn’t worked on much of anything tactically.

None of the youngsters stood out, save for maybe Blacker in the last 10. Baptiste looked far happier playing with an actual centre half rather than RND.

Anyway looking forward to being out of permanent January crisis mode in terms of injuries/signings with the new owners and hopefully have a proper go at progressing next year, no matter what the circumstances are

The decision the schedule the game at 7pm got the crowd it deserved though. If you’ve got kids or can’t leave work til 5/6pm it’s a struggle. My daughter usually plays football Thursdays after school as well. Fortunately it was cancelled so I was free to go but I’d be tempted to vote with my feet next time given the contempt scheduling games at daft times shows to the fans.

41,000 at Villa for a televised FA cup 3rd round game was a fantastic effort from their supporters, and West Ham fans too.
The game at Bramall Lane should have been a £5 for kids and season ticket holders.

Well he basically does, he changes almost the entire team in every cup game and has done pretty much every year he's been at the club. And quite clearly doesn't work on anything beforehand with the team he plays. For whatever reason he has no interest in the cups. Nothing we can do about it and he's backed it up with league performances so thats that. And also nothing changes about people wanting a ticket either for a semi final because every single person who wants one gets one.

It wouldn't have made any difference anyway. Early round cup games attendances in Sheffield are always atrocious. I'm not even sure you're allowed to charge less than a tenner either, could be wrong with that though.

Most clubs are setting themselves for promotion, the play offs, or a relegation battle. Every club is having to dig deep. Lots of game days & kick off times are being fucked around with.

The excuses being made for an extremely poor attendance at Bramall Lane. And the so called death of the FA Cup could be levelled by (nearly) EVERY club. Yet I feel it is our attendance that will stand out as particularly poor.

So when the manager has warned we are struggling to field a team + we know his track record in the Cup , I can't really blame the missing 20k for putting their feet up + tuning into BBC Wales.

Sheffield United U21 have played 16 games this season.
Therefore the total number of starts for the U21s is 16x11=176.
The starting XI v Cardiff City in the FA Cup have made a combined total of 40 starts in the U21s this season.
Meaning that the starting XI v Cardiff City was a 40/176=0.2272 U21 team.

The headline is - Sheffield United fielded a quarter of an Under 21 team v Cardiff City

No atmosphere ( the impetus the crowd gave us was missing).

Wonder what the new owners think, manager couldn't care less about FA Cup, hence supporters know and don't bother turning up, yes, we have injuries, but surely a good cup run wouldn't go amiss nd get the owners interest up, won one match in our last 5 and yet some wanting him to have a 2/3 year contract. Are the owners happy with this situation, enough to warrant such a deal, I'd rather see the season out and then decide on the manager situation

No. Not on this thread. Not that I can see. The only similar point is about Everton fans being automatically charged for Cup tickets, whether they like it or not. And, I don't believe FA Cup games being in season tickets is widespread. I believe it's the exception rather than the rule.

Fair. Someone did allude to it on another thread, but concede I may have misinterpreted it.

It's a little difficult to have this debate on S24SU.

Any point along the lines of - it's a football game, being played by your team, of course you should be there - could be countered by accusations of - "Bigger Blade".

Any criticism of poor attendances could be countered by "Attendance FC, must be an obsessed Grunter"

I wear my heart on my sleeve. Open book me. Regularly get criticised. Could sum those criticisms up as - pompous know it all.

But, I want to go to games. Hopefully to see my team win. But mainly to see my team play. Surely it's OK to do that. Surely it's OK to say that. I understand that some/many other fans see it differently. But, you'll understand - I'm still a little incredulous at that. Not to be critical of fans who choose not to go. Just to find it outside my pay grade.

The bigger clubs do in most cases have auto cup ticket schemes,it's a bit stick and carrot ,say get 2 fa cup tickets and you go into priority for European games .
