He still has a year left and probably an extension clause based on others in the squad.
Had just assumed that he was apparently "in contract talks" after the West Ham interest, but that seems to have disappeared

I wonder what the amount of the release clause is in JOCs new contract? No less than £10m ?

Rumour was that he has holding off to see how this season finishes regarding which league we'll be in, before he committed more of his future to us. Whether true or someone putting 2 + 2 and getting 67, I'm not sure.

Could Fleck leave in the summer?

Yes, but practically any player could leave in the summer.

Should we go up, you'd hope we'd be able to keep hold of all of our best players.

Does he have one?

I would guess there is a release fee in the case we don't get promoted. Exactly what that figure is we'll likely never know. Hopefully it's above £10m, but Topplayersleave will probably tell you it's 25p, or something equally stupid.

Could be. Then again,Brooks didn't have one.

The reason I feel O'Connell may have one as opposed to Brooks, is that there seemed to be some delay in him signing a deal - I'm presuming (and it's all conjecture) that he wants to play in the PL, hence the delay. For that reason, a non-promotion release clause would seem to appease all parties.

I wouldn't rule it out, but then it could be questioned what value there was getting him extended - depending on what the release clause figure is.He still had two years left at the end of this season.

Didn't O'Connell already have 2 years left?

In which case, there'd be no pressure for us to agree to a release clause now - at least not a low one. So I'd be surprised if we have.

And generally, we seem to have been avoiding release clauses.

Yes, just made that point above: https://www.sufc.co.uk/news/2017/november/jack-oconnell-contract/
The release clause would have to be substantial to consider it; by that, I mean substantially more than he's worth. If not the improved financial package and weakness of our position would not be worth offering the new deal. I think Wilder's the type who'd have a gentleman's agreement with a player anyway.

Not surprised RE: contract for Fleck and not concerned at all.

When West Ham came sniffing in January, if Wilder’s spoken to him and the conversation went along the lines of no fucking way until the summer, it’s certainly not affected his performances of late !

Flecky will be 28 at the start of next season. If we've only got the money to do one of the two improved contracts now, I know which one I'd be doing: the 24 year olds. And Fleck's my favourite player, alongside Enda.

Whoever we start, if we win it’ll be great, but how hilarious would it be to rub it in and have Billy and Madine on the score sheet?

Kinell more seats allocated, allowed to drink beer.

May even get there and into the ground without being treated like shit.

Sorry- went too far.

The most important update of all...

SYP have confirmed alcohol WILL be served to away fans inside the ground.

Yeah but only after a Blade tweeted SYP to ask if Legends was still the designated away pub :D:D:D

Is there just Coutts left to look at then ?

Baldock is only under contract until Summer 2020.
Of the current "first choice" players, I think his contract is due to expire first.
Maybe we're worried about his injury record or maybe just waiting to see what division we're in?

just listened to his interview

the man crush on this man keeps getting bigger ! The way he speaks you can tell he is red and white through and through
when NW was here it was great to have a blade as the manager but never ever felt like it does now , with CW you can tell it means everything to him

how amazing it would be too go to the Prem with this man in charge !
