Unsworth to Wigan

Wigan have signed David Unsworth from Premiership rivals Sheffield United.

Unsworth was out of the picture at Bramall Lane after dropping down the pecking order in Neil Warnock's plans.

The former Everton man was placed on the transfer list last month by United and Wigan have moved to offer him an escape route out of the Yorkshire club.

The 33-year-old will help provide cover in the Wigan defence with Andy Webster on the verge of a move to Rangers.

Unsworth becomes Wigan's third signing of the month following the captures of Kristofer Haestad and Andreas Granqvist.

There are players in the squad that it doesn't matter how much they go for (if anything at all) the wages budget is equally as important as the budget we have to actually spend on someone. We are not going to be selling to make money in this window, it will be a wages thing and to make space for new players.

I'm actually quite baffled as to why wigan have decided to take Unsy but I wish him the best of luck regardless. He was an
important part of the team that got us promoted and i will always hold him in a high regard as a result of this.

Fair enough im sure he was quite high on the pay budget
