I'll give you a sensible answer Ball_Sup (Phil)

I followed Eng home and away for a few years nothing on your respectable scale.

I always wanted Eng to win but the passion when Eng scored, even in Germany 2006, was nothing on the scale of United scoring.

The one and only time I had "a jump around" like a Blades game was for the Argentina friendly in Geneva when we scored 2 late goals to win the game.

So as much as I'd want Eng to win I'm not half as interested in their result as The Blades.

Given that Philip is baffled, and more than a little upset about the fact that Unitedites aren't generally overly complimentary about Sheffield Wednesday, this thread is about par for the course.

Thank you. I suppose the point is ... I haven't got it in me. Of course I want my club side to win, they're my club side. Of course I want my national team to win, they're my national team. Of course, I feel better if they win. But, if they lose, I'm over that in a minute and a half, on to the next enjoyment. I've read the threads, and I have to accept at face value the claims of ruined weekends and days of despair delivered by a Utd defeat. But, because I just haven't got that in me, it surprises me.

And, I write parody for a pastime. So, naturally, I'm going to parody all this "stuff" down the channel of posters demonstrating how much of a Blade they are by how miserable they feel after a defeat. And parodying posters who demonstrate how much of a Blade they are by how much they hate England.

Silent Blade keeps getting the quote wrong, but in his (s)crapbooks he's got that quote of mine -

I'm a fan of going to watch Sheffield United play

Because I haven't got this "thing" in me to let the result impact on my enjoyment.

I'll take your accusation of "baffled". I understand why you'd say that. But, I'm hardly hiding my views am I.

This - oooohhhh I hate Wednesday so much it hurts - stuff is just completely made up and is not real in any sense.

It has all just become a contest to come up with ever more ludicrous reasons why people hate them.

At least if you hate them have the decency to give one of them a fucking right hander.

You shouldn't be encouraging violence Phil

You're right ... but, but, but I just hate them so much, it burns within me every single second, having listened to all the creative ways other posters have found to hate them, violence might be the only avenue left to me. You know, unless it's all just pantomime, as I feared all along.

Even a win yesterday didn’t make me enjoy the match, I enjoyed the 3 points but the match was turgid.
I'm very happy to continue a friendly dialogue on this sort of stuff, mainly because it fascinates me. What do you think of someone like me, who claims to still enjoy games if we don't play well and/or don't win, albeit with less enjoyment.

Does it sound completely alien to "your way of support"?

Yes, you've touted this grand theory a few times, it's quite entertaining, albeit entirely wrong.

Not at all, I ‘support’ regardless of the result. However I don’t ‘enjoy’ poor football.

My views over the years have changed a lot but now I’m a bit older I like to be entertained. My purchasing behaviour reflects this. Back in my teens and 20’s I’d buy tickets for any sporting, music or comedy events going.

Now I’m more discerning and concentrate on the ones that I think will entertain me (or in the case of the Blades because I always have and always will). I also prefer things that I’m invested in emotionally.

A large part of this is probably that I tend not to get pissed at these events anymore so I need to be able to enjoy it without intoxicants.

My views on you and your support aren’t really of consequence, you do what you do and if that makes you happy then fair enough. I’d love to have the time to be a full time sports fan but with 3 kids and a job it isn’t happening anytime soon!

I feel I've become more of a fan, and get more enjoyment now that I have cut down on the alcohol.

It seems to me that the only thing you are an obsessive fan of is 'Ball_sup (Phil)'. You write with an air of superiority, giving little digs here and that at other posters - some veiled some not so, but always with an air of 'I'm Ball_sup (Phil) I am better than you'. To me you are just a pisshead - you just drink in different places to most of the rest of us.

You see, most of us on here don't feel the need to tell the whole world where we've been, where we are going, what we are going to do, and how many boxes we have now ticked in our fantastic life. For what it's worth, I have absolutely no desire at all to travel around the world watching sport. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong, but have you ever felt the love and peace that a massive hug and kiss from a little grand daughter gives you? Or watching the kids play in the sunshine laughing and smiling?

We are all different, of course. Some people get pleasure from writing a 'parody' on their wonderful life that is soooooooo much better than yours and try to ram it down peoples throat at any opportunity.

Understand all that. I've never hid from the fact it's an ego project.

Did somebody say pantomime ,oh yes he did oh no he didn't .

Probably a bit harsh but I can see why it gets people’s backs up at times.

There are plenty of reasons why people may not have kids and grandkids though so it’s worth being mindful of these.

Spoken like a man who clearly knows every single Blades fan and their individual psyche or personal experiences. There may be a hundred reasons why anyone has a dislike for something which has degrees of scale, so for example from indifference, to intense hatred of something (which incidentally I don't think is healthy).

For me, having a large dislike of SWFC is just based on rivalry and for various instances during my life where I have seen or heard things which have only intensified those thoughts. Notice I said intense dislike and not hatred, and that I hold those feelings for that football club and it's support base in general and anything associated with it. It's rivalry in football which is still tribal. That said, me having an intense dislike of SWFC and their general fan base doesn't mean that I can't wear blue and white, or I refuse to acknowledge that day of the week, or have friends and working colleagues who do support them. For the latter they are not each the anti Christ. They are just like you and me but misguided. I feel more sorry for them. I can still like them individually whilst disliking their chosen football club.

I think you come across as a tad egocentric and/or presumptuous at times in that if you don't see it get something so it must be claptrap i.e 'its become a contest'?? and 'its not real in any sense'??. Maybe not to you, but then you are not me or anyone else for that matter.

For example, I don't get the psyche of anyone who can get over the disappointment of watching his or her club get a poor result in a minute and a half. But then whilst I might choose not to believe you on that, I respect that might just be how you roll. However, United losing can still put a dampener on my weekend and I'm old enough to know better. Fact is, it just can. And another fact is, I intensely dislike SWFC. Whether you understand that or want me to go out and clock some poor bastard just for being misguided enough to support them is not my concern as I don't know you from Adam and I have no desire to either.

Maybe your just in a bad mood cos your beloved England lost last night. My team won yesterday so I'm well happy - for the rest of the weekend. SUFC can do that for me you see (or maybe you don't).

Come on ,you know he was over the England defeat in a minute and half 😂

Do you celebrate when United score? I think you're more invested in the Blades than either you're letting on or you realise. The non bladeyness in your posts is just as cringe worthy as the bladeyness in others. For what it's worth I've got to inform you I hate those scrubby bastards from S6. It's not manufactured in any way but made up of life experience and to suggest otherwise is a little condescending.

Give over. He knows us better than we know ourselves. Clearly, some people have a very high opinion of themselves. Narcissist.

The simple answer is yes, I celebrate when we score. Because they're my team. For many years. And I want them to play well and win. It's often context. That deep into injury time winner at Swansea for instance. That was celebrated. I think it's more like I get the highest of highs when we score, play well and win. But, I just don't feel any dramatic low if it doesn't work out like that. I'm always positive about the team. Very rarely critical other than - what's he fucking thinking there.

I've been on all four sides at Derby games at Hillsborough. Stood on the Shoreham when Wednesday have tried to take it. Moved heaven and earth to get people tickets for Derby games. I understand the rivalry very well. I just prefer that sort of rivalry to name calling & schoolyard capers.

Nah, that sort of thing is for the rabble.

Absolutely. I know that I can't be doing with that sort of thing either. Especially when those efforts and potential time lost can be spent by me updating my blog about the latest pint of 'Rabbits Veiny Cock' that was very palatable and a nice session ale.

Yes but historians suggest that Jesus was born sometime in November, not December. The Christmas thing is just another christian hijacking of a pagan festival, in this case Yule.

Agree with your post. But I thought it was actually April time that historians say was the time of year Baby C made an appearance from the players tunnel for the first time. I always thought it ironic that we celebrate Easter when it should actually be Christmas Day....

Good for you. Now... who really cares. I know I don't.

I'm now going back to enjoying my Blades win weekend and my anti SWFC feelings. It's how I roll you see.
