I can't remember any others since I started watching the Blades circa 1980.
I'm sure there must have been others in the dim and distant past though.
When were they? Who came out on top?

There have been 2.

1938-39 in the 2nd Division. Wednesday had finished their programme and we needed to beat Tottenham to overall them in 2nd place. We won 6-1 and went up.

1949-50 in the 2nd division: This time we had finished our programme and Wednesday needed a point in their last game (also v Spurs I think) to pip us on goal average. They drew 0-0 and went up by a fraction of a goal.

One-all then with this season to be the decider!

Not sure but we will come out on top this time.

Yes, it was at home to Spurs (who finished top of the table and in the following season won the league) but it wasnt any draw that Wendy needed to go up. a no scoredraw was good enough for Wendy (F67 A 48) to pip the Blades (F68 A49) on goal average by 0.008. Had it been a 1-1 draw then Wendy and the Blades would be level on goal average (I think the Blades would have gone up as they won one more match than Wendy) a 2-2 draw would have seen the Blades go up

Amazing, Silent - Pigs need a nil-niller or beat Spurs (whom, as you said finished top of the table and in the following season won the league) and they get the nil-nil....

Hmmmm!

Under the current rules we'd have gone up on goals scored...

I can remember it (just). Those were in the days when not all teams played their last fixture at the same time. A lot of Blades fans went to Hillsborough to support Spurs but it was a tame 0- 0 draw. There was talk of a 'fix' but nothing concrete was proven. Spurs were already promoted, so perhaps it was just a case that they didn't need to bother, although players were on something like £12 per week maximum in those days, so one does wonder whether the Spurs players were tempted to make a few quid extra.

The press used to joke about the Sheffield yo-you around that period.

After the War, United were in Div 1 and Wednesday in Div 2

United were relegated in 1948/49
Wednesday were promoted in 1949/50
Wednesday were relegated in 1950/51
Wednesday were promoted in 1951/52
United were promoted in 1952/53
Wednesday were relegated in 1954/55
United were relegated in 1955/56 Wednesday were promoted the same season.
Wednesday were relegated in 1957/58
Wednesday were promoted in 1958/59 (united were in 3rd place, so missed out again)
United were promoted in 1960/61.

No wonder why Senior Blades tend to be bitter and twisted ...
