Much like the Blades previous opponents, Manchester United have been under performing this season, but only find themselves narrowly behind United in the table.
They have been inconsistent all season to say the least, but have started to pick up results in their last six games, though these have been sandwiched in between two losses. For a team that spent over £100mil on their defence this summer, they have only managed two clean sheets all season. They have failed to score in two of their last six matches. They do, however, have goal scorers from other areas with James, McTominay and Martial all having scored more than once this season, though most of these goals have come at home.
On the road they are, well, abysmal to be honest. One away win all season, no clean sheets and they score on average less than a goal a game. Away from home they have failed to score in two matches and have only scored more than one goal once, which was against Norwich (join the club!).
Their decision to use Marcus Rashford as their main threat up front this season appears to be paying off to some extent on paper, but much like Man U this season, this flatters to deceive. Rashford has six goals though two of these came courtesy of the penalty spot, leaving him with four from open play. Away from Old Trafford Rashford has only found the net once and Anthony Martial has been their top scorer with two goals.
The Blades are currently in great form, undefeated in five with only the one undeserved loss against Liverpool. They've won two of their last six games and have maintained their defensive record by keeping three clean sheets during this time. They've also met tough opponents in Arsenal, West Ham and Spurs and remained unbeaten in these fixtures, unlucky to only draw at Spurs. In this period Mousset has been their top scorer with two goals, and goals have started coming from other areas with the midfield and defence chalking up four. The Blades have only failed to score in one game during this period.
At home the Blades have won back to back against Burnley and Arsenal, which added to their earlier win against Palace gave them three clean sheets in all three victories. The glory was sandwiched between three defeats, all of which were unlucky. A wonder goal from Leicester defeated them, a piece of individual skill won the match for Soton in a game where the Blades battered their opponents from start to finish, then a loss against Liverpool due to a howler from the goalkeeper. No one can dispute that all three defeats were arguably undeserved.
At Bramall Lane John Lundstram has been the hero so far with three goals, all from open play.
Prediction: Home win
