Jim Leighton, got him on loan in the early 90's and I dont think he played a game. Very much a blink and you'll miss him episode.

Marlon King, even with the controversy a entirely forgettable period.

Yes, on loan towards the end of 1988-89 season, started in all the last 4 games of the season but he didnt celebrate with the players and fans after the final whistle at Wolves. After shaking hands with the opponents and walked straight to the players tunnel. Looked like he knew he wasnt staying at SUFC after the end of the season.

Part of the answer to the trivia question: which 3 Blades players from the 1988-9 promotion squad went on to win full international caps? Deano is the obvious one but the other two are most unlikely - Paul Williams for Northern Ireland and Moore for Hong Kong.

Mostly from the foreign legion.....

Axel Smeets
Ahmed Fahti
Laurens Ten Heuval
Carl Robinson
Darren Bullock
Andy Campbell
Wilko De Vogt
Hao Hai Dong (Spelling?)
Li Tie
Mamadou Seck
Frank Talia
Dougie Hodgson
David Carney

Hodgson was too much of a character to be forgettable.

Tony Moore - possibly our worst ever right back.
Steve Faulkner - possibly our worst ever centre half
Dougie Brown - enthusiastic but crap
John Flood - just very poor.
John McGeadie (Father of Aidem McGeady) very fast but not with a ball at his feet.
Micky Guy - just not very good.
Dennis Longhorn ( sounds like a cowboy) ditto

Plenty to choose from... Here’s my XI, could do about 5 of these purely with Warnock and Blackwell signings!

Gary Kelly
—————
Richard Edghill
Terry Phelan
Jonathan Fortune
Shane Lowry
————
Tommy Black
Darren Bullock
Li Tie
Danny Philliskirk
————
Steve Lovell
Dean Sturridge

I'd forgotten about Lowry. I thought he was a decent defender but a bit hot headed if I remember correctly?

Warnock loved a striker,

Vincent Pericard and David Johnson spring to mind for this thread.

1. Andy Dibble (goalkeeper)
2. Simon Lappin (leftback)
3. Paul Connolly (right back)
4. Trevor Ross (midfield)
5. Ken McNaught (centre back)
6. Jody Craddock (centre back)
7. Lee Martin (winger)
8. Michael Boulding (winger)
9.Billy Paynter (striker)
10. Izale McLeod (striker)
11. Stuart Wilson (midfielder)
Sub. Paul McGrath (he made a big impression on us but was probably so drunk he forgot all about us!)
Pedro Verde

Nicky Henry
Bruno Ribero
Mark Patterson
John Ebbrell
Steve Finneston
James Beattie (2nd time)

Don Peattie & Russell Black.
Our marquee signings when we returned to the old Division 2 in 1984
I thought I remembered the names of all United players I have seen but I have absolutely no recollection of Don Peattie. I checked Wikipedia and yes he played for us!

The only recollection I have of him (and I may be wrong) he seemed to have a very odd running style, a bit upright/straight backed.
Similar to Michael Johnson but not quite as fast.

Who was the kid on loan from Plymouth, got injured pre-season then Went back?

Ryan France should be in the list too.

I genuinely can't remember McLoed or Paynter playing for us

I remember some Irish kid who we had on loan from Sunderland a few years ago. Only played one game. I think he was called Egan. Probably playing for Partick Thistle or Frickley Athletic now, but I hope he’s keeping well.
I remember him. When Danny Wilson was invited to talk about his attributed he basically said that he was all we could afford.

Probably playing Gaelic football back home

Do you mean Lilian Nalis?

Ha! Must be the same era as me, was just thinking Dougie Brown and Mike Guy hadn't been mentioned. Tony Moore always gets a mention in these threads.

I remember as a youth being so excited about our big summer signing, Richard Cadette, which never really turned in to much did it.
