The US is a mess right now. I am a dual citizen (US and UK) and will vote tomorrow. I've told my fabulous wife that we will vote before the SUFC game so we can be back for the 2.45pm kick off.

I am geniungly fearful for the US, and the world, if Trump wins tomorrow. While I am personally a middle sitting citizen between the Democrat and Republican parties, there is no way on the Earth that Trump is good for us.

God forbid that Trump wins tomorrow. If he loses he will declare that he was robbed and all hell will break loose!!

Our sponsor is more positive, should have added a Blades promotion to the mix.

All I said was the sexual abuse allegations didn't fully come out until after he died, which is true.
Jerry said it very loudly and very publicly at the Edinburgh Fringe and literally on record.
On the day he died he was still a knight of the realm, his knighthood was never revoked.
One interpretation of this is they didn't know, another is they knew but didn't care, another is they didn't know and didn't want to find out.
In life he was never disgraced.
There were plenty of people, thousands, who knew exactly what type of person Savile was. I imagine the children he abused, for instance, found him fairly disgraceful.

It's an interesting question as to why this was not an acknowledged part of public consciousness till after he died.

He really was a disgrace though.

A knighthood is a living title it dies with you so as soon as he died he was no longer sir Jimmy saville ,

Unless you've been living in a cave for the past few weeks you'll know that it is the US Presidential election tomorrow, which is widely being called the most significant of modern times. It is also of course an away day for United at Bristol City
Which other United games have happened on the same day as a major news story?
The biggest one was 9/11 when United were away to Grimsby in the League Cup (I consider myself an avid Blade but I struggled to get too wound up by that game on 'The Day The World Changed' ( I've included highlights of the game on this thread, I've never seen such a well observed minute's silence).
I remember on the night when Princess Diana died I had been to Huddersfield to watch us draw 0-0 (a disappointing game given our impressive start under Nigel Spackman).
The only Britush general election that clashed with a United game was in 2015, a play off game against Swindon played on a Thursday. I walked back from the ground despondent about United's promotion chances after a home defeat and then found out the Tories had won the election (not the result I wanted either).
On the day of the Hillsborough tragedy, United were away at Northampton, again another game where it was difficult getting too involved with due to the breaking news.
I'm sure there are plenty of others that I've forgotten about. I remember on the day Princess Margaret died in 2002 we beat Portsmouth 4-3 (and there was the worst observed minute's silence in history.
I'm not going to reveal who I want to win tomorrow's election. I'll just say Rak-Sakyi is the only right winger I'm wanting to do well!

Grimsby away in the cup. Possibly the strangest game I've been to under the circumstances.

Except for Martin Amis, who received his knighthood after he died!

We beat the pigs 2-1 away on 1st April 2001 which was the day after somebody died "suspiciously" in Michael Barrymore's pool...

October 21st 2023 - Bobby Charlton passed away. We played that evening, ironically against Manchester United.

January 30th 1965 was the date of Winston Churchill's funeral. We played Aston Villa in the FA Cup 4th round that day. Lost 0-2. Keith Kettleborough was sent off - first time I'd ever seen a player sent off.

We can add the Pope dying on the same day as United played Burnley to the list now.

I love how the Grimsby commentator starts out being very downbeat and respectful of the occasion but by the end he's forgotten about it so completely that he can say "Grimsby Town go through in the most dramatic of circumstances" and not realise that might be a bit off colour 🤣

When I woke up one morning in February 2002 to the news that Princess Margaret had died my wife asked me if I could take my son to watch us play Portsmouth because he had asked her if I could take him. His first match was against Bolton at home in November 1999 but he couldnt stay still and concentrate so I thought I would wait till he is old enough to stay still and concentrate. I agreed to take him to the Portsmouth match and after that I took him to the Lane regularly despite that he stood up and cheered when Peter Crouch scored the opener!
