Just been watching the "Women" one for the first time in 26 years.
I remembered liking Janet Stancliffe (looks and personality). Still do
I'd forgotten what a misery guts Jill Rostron came across as.

Don't think Wilf could quite find the 'zone' at home.

As for Bob Booker - wasn't he on the Leppings Lane end with the Blades on the night of the yellow balloons? Can't imagine any of the current bunch doing such a thing.

I'd better be careful I wouldn't be surprised if that 'numpty' is a renowned poster on here!

David Broughton wasn't it? He definitely won't have his shrine with SUFC on the ceiling because the council knocked all those maisonettes down in the 2000's.

Working from memory from all those years ago, was he the one who said that Mark Morris was " the worst centre haif we've had dahn 'ere since Faulkner"?

Brilliant series. Still watch it every few years to reminisce about the good old days. Club was still a mess in many ways with Brealey, Hashimi fiasco et but the team spirit that Bassett instilled was superb. What I would give for 1/10th of that team spirit and togetherness.

Still tease Paul Stancliffe's son (good friends with him) over his part in the series; cant cut his meat. Always tell him his Mum is a bit of a legend from her genuine but heartwarming role in the series! Apparently it was bullshit about him (Stan) listening to Genesis every Friday night though. His son is sat with Richie Humphries in the video (watch the Watford game) who was a big blade and friends with the family.

I know it was recent that Winnie Royston passed away wasn;t it? Still seen Keith Broughton at matches now looking somewhat older than he is now but he was the one who said Morris was worst centre half we have had.

Keith Broughton was at the reunion dinner for the 1990 side recently.

I always like how Sir Bob Booker won over the fans - he was utter shite when he first joined, but put in 100% - but even after a loss or bad performance he'd walk up to the kop at the end of the match and applaud the fans. Showed bottle and the fans appreciated it, he got less stick and more support and rest is history.

I think the game that cemented Sir Bob his place in 'The Hall of Bladedom' was that fabulous, sunny day at QPR on April 13 1991. Thousands of Blades fan and Booker scored the winner in front of our fans in the famous fluorescent yellow shirts.

Those shirts will live long in the memory and encapsulated 'the Bassett days'. (In the 'Complete Record' book by Denis Clarebrough on page 470 the manager is erroneously named as Billy McEwan :()

Wonder how many will remember the insipid white shit we're forced to wear this season?

Sir Bob was often seen sat with the Blades fans at away games, including the famous 3-1 at Swillsborough on Feb. 11, 1992.

I have this on a fairly ropey vhs rip, but haven't watched it since it was on tv. I may need to dig it out. Good times indeed.

Imagine if they did this series now, it would make Eastenders seem like a cheerful watch. :(

Sorry if this has been posted before but can this series still be bought? Any help gratefully received I loved watching this with my old man and would be a great birthday present

I've not watched those episodes back yet but one thing that stands out is that despite being on course for back to back promotions the fans were still largely pessimistic and loved a scapegoat. The money that l**ds and Newcastle spent that year absolutely dwarfed our budget. West Ham too. It really was amazing in hindsight. Getting the same points as the champions was quite something. Another point and the title and I think Bassett and that team would be elevated to mythical status.

My old man used to make the very same point, how Leeds spent a whole lot more than United and only just scraped the title on goal difference (or goals scored?) while Ron Atkinson won manager of the year (??) making it a mockery, in that someone who spent a massive budget achieved little more than someone who had to scrape £80k from the boardroom.

Wasn't that a season to remember?

Nothing has come close since.

At times it felt that all the squad/management were playing for me and they were listening to my thoughts, then when we went away to Stoke City (1-0) and Leicester City (I don't need to say!) and you looked around and then you realised that they were playing for us all as individuals and as supporters. Best season ever to support United?

Easy.

That 1988-1992/3 period remains the highlight of my life as a Blade.

It was the first five years, mind you...

Wish I was old enough to remember this season. I was 5 at the time and my dad always tells me that Leicester away on the last day was a scorcher, we were having a BBQ in the back garden and my dad had the radio on listening to the game. He wanted to go down to the Lane to welcome the players back.

UTB !!!

Bob was a regular at away games for a bit, stole the show and got them chanting on the away end at swills that night.... A great night...

That white shirt is virtually unfindable, it's a proper collectors item...

Was also the guest of honour onboard The Fulham Monty. What a Blade...

Classic!

Was the game the one where Fulham unveiled Tigana before the game then gubbed us 3 or 4 nil?! Piss wet through, no hot drinks or food from the shack at the back of the terrace.

I was working at Butlins Minehead that day and spent a full weeks wage on the train, match ticket and beer money that day to get gubbed 4-0......

A great series, and really enjoyable to rewatch. A year sadly after I became a Unitedite, ill timing though I was probably too young to have really appreciated it anyway.

I know the zone man questions keep recurring but my questions are:

– did the child Christened in the lime green classic/monstrosity remain a fan of the club and "a follower and supporter of Jesus Christ"?
– did the club increase the wages of the laundry ladies after their scathing criticism of the club, or were they eliminated?
– did the apprentice given a contract on the basis he'd grow end up growing the required amount?
– despite getting a crisp 'No' from David Elleray when asked if Bassett could go and see him in ten mins, did he go anyway?
– did Mrs Bryson ever get allowed out of the house?

Is Dave Bassett the only man who calls Brian Deane "Deanesy" not "Deano"?
