When Subbuteo dreams come true:

While we're comparing across eras I reckon that if the team from, say, last Tuesday was transported back to 1970 they'd absolutely hammer the legendary Brazil team which won that World Cup.

Fitness, tactics, speed, even technique - Pele and his mates wouldn't stand a chance.

Point being that you can't really make these comparisons across eras. Times change.

It's (even) clearer with, say, athletics: if the 1936 Jesse Owens turned up in 2015 he'd probably be a regional quarter finalist. Doesn't mean he's not an all-time great.

If I had to pick a favourite goal it'd probably be Carlos Alberto's scoring Brazil's fourth in that final; I'm as much of a fan as anyone else but...

Sheffield United 7 Brazil 0

:-)

They don't even play the same game as Brazil 1970.Game even has certain different rules now. Even if it didn't, we would still find several worlds difference, even at our best.

What if you put them back to early 1970 and gave them a few months to prepare on those diets and training regimes?

And would they be able to run and strike a heavy ball properly on an old English pitch? And with the rules and style they had wouldnt scougall, reed and half our team get legally steamrollered?
