United 2 Preston 1 - report

I agree with most of the report. I believe, however, you are being very kind to Preston.

They were nothing short of disgraceful. Time wasting from the first goalkick until they went behind and about as physical as you can get and still say you're playing football and not rugby. Fucking disgraceful. Hoofy and Megson would have been having a wank watching them.

Reminiscent of the game against Hull in the promotion season, when it all looked like going wrong and ended with Unsworths late winner. Similar feeling on Saturday for me.

Stevenage for me the biggest threat, but they may run out of games with so many to play.

I think they'll have a dip at some point too. They're not so good as to maintain their excellent form until the end of the season. In a sense, they've peaked early as I can't see them carrying their form into the playoffs.

Just watched the highlights and what strikes me is just how good the two finishes were from Evans, the first was a narrow angle with the outside of his "wrong" foot, with a keeper charging across his goal, and the second was an absolute thunderbolt through the crowd of players.

We'll have 6 games left when his trial starts, we need as many points as possible before then IMO...

What are the chances of a delay in the case? Do these things run on time?

No chance whatsoever unless someone vital to the case (the Defendants or the Complainant) is ill.

Aha, cheers. My only experience of such things is doing jury service where delays seemed normal to the untrained eye...

I thought you were getting at whether or not the trial itself would be put off. That itself is very unlikely. As for the case starting on time, but running longer than expected, that is rather likely.

In relation to my marks -

Granted Simonsen had nothing to do but I am convinved he should have come and got the ball when they won a corner (we put it out) that led to their goal. He actually came and then ran back again. He knew as he put his arm up to apologise. He had no chance with the actual header. His distribution was also poor - number of throws to full back/centre half where they were under a bit of pressure.

As for Maguire I agree with Brownie and he would have rivalled Collins/Evans for MOM BUT he lost his man for the goal and did not even put him off (it was a free header - a good header at that). Thus despite him being faultless in everything else I marked him down. Maybe I am a bit harsh!

Unfortunatey not at Hillsborough Sunday btw. Weekend at wifes in Wales and not sure I could have hacked tension anyway! I kind of said I was not going back after watching 3 defeats in 4 years 'there' recently. I seem to have jinxed us at Hillsborough and have missed 2 wins so think it may be best if I dont go!

Appreicate some reports from those who do go of course!

Nice report Deadbat. The full game is now on Blades Player so I watched it last night with your report as a guide. Can't complain about most of your ratings, though I thought the ball you said should have been Simmo's was 50-50 and his failure to gather didn't directly cause their goal. Having seen our first goal again it was Quinn's quick thinking that set up the chance. Yes he loses the ball too much and has a tendancy to take an extra touch / over-elaborate but he also has some good touches and is an handful for the opposition to mark. Shame you won't be doing a report on the derby game.
