You certainly don't get games like that every week.

Probably the worst own goal I've seen us put away in the best part of 50 years (I always had either of Big Eddies debacles against Leeds or Stoke from many moons ago) and down to 9 men (although this is the FOURTH time I've seen it happen against OLDHAM!!!!).

I didn't see the first Lowton booking due to the incredulaty that was happening after the own goal. BUT, if you've been booked two minutes previously, the challenge for the second is stupid in the extreme and you deserve what you get. Could easily have been a straight red anyway.

More worried about the repurcussions of suspensions and injuries than the loss of the three points to be honest. Onward and upward.

i hadn't realised that it was an own goal until i saw it on the tv.. brilliant header cressy.. absolute bullet..
wrong goal though.. what were you doing mate? :)

Stancliffe v Preston on 8/3/89 is a contender and Andy Barnsley in the first minute v Bradford on 28/3/87 is my personal favourite.

OG's

my goodness. it's "darren brown".. some memory there mate :)

Remember that Andy Barnsley one.

Also remember David Holdsworth scoring a bullet header in a game v Norwich on Sky when Kendall was in charge? Didn't he score an own goal a week previous for Swindon (and then scored at right end)?

Yes he did, the Norwich one certainly wasn`t a bullet header though. For a bullet header see Brian Gayles against Luton away, thankfully we won 6-3 that day...

Pemberton's vs Man City pretty soon after the Pig Semi Final was a good one too - seem to remember it was top corner

Yes, Pembo sort of fell over and smashed it in under very little pressure. Deane then scored a cracker to level past Andy Coton.

I remember the Norwich one as a gentle nod back to Kelly, but I think Kelly was injured, so didn't get to it. Kelly had to go off at some point and Nilsen went in goal.

I think Holdsworth was after Nilsen went in net...

What about Gayle's goal against Leeds in 92, when they wion the title at BDTBL. Dave Bassets words of 'stop Cantona from scoring at all costs', were taken a bit too literally!?

Shocking own goal by Cressy. Really put us under pressure. Nerves have been creeping into our game recently. This is the result of the Wednesday game also pressure of being 2nd I guess. We look jittery. As soon as Oldham scored I thought they would get a result. When Lowton went off I was sure they would win. Football matches are won and lost on fine margins and Saturday was no exception. Doyle's shot goes in and we win 4 or 5 nil. Ched's shot goes in (either of them) and we win the game late on and Maguire starts the next game. We've rode our luck a few times this season and on Saturday we did not get the rub of the green.

It's time to move on. But will the players? Will they bounce back and put this behind them? Big question marks are there. Hopefully they can. It's not great that we are away from home, but Walsall are not a good side. We'll create chances and it is important we're ruthless. If Collins comes back, hopefully we can stay solid. It will be interesting. Walsall got a lat point and are undefeated in 4. I am sure they will remember the Lane and attack us. But we'll get chances. I can see there being a few goals. It is up to Wilson to get the players over Saturday and up for tomorrow. The senior pro's need to stand up and be counted. I think we need to get a result tomorrow, because we don't want to be going to Griffin Park with 3 out of 4 defeats. Could being away be an advantage. I hope the players can relax and a decent away crowd gets behind the boys and pushes them on to get a victory.

It's actually quite funny, my last home game was vs Exeter. Remember that? 4-4. Actually a similar game to Saturday. We defended like school boys then and did not get the basics right. I think I might stay away from the Lane for a while

and i thought it was my fault 'cos i had the wrong hoodie on.. or i shouldn't have tied my lace at half time :)

Was actually MY fault. Wrong boxers on, white instead of Black. Shalln't be doing that again, plus the Mrs not too impressed with the Brown stripe I involuntarily added after Cressys own goal!

Don't tie your laces next time sp ...... no matter how many times the forum's favvourite shed builder trip over em!? ;)

it was a good win for Oldham and this game may have been good to watch, but we must take our chances that's the main thing.
