He's had a handful of games. Concentrate on supporting him rather than thinking which negative list he can appear upon.

Our money pays his high wages for him the stroll about and do sod all up to now the kid has potential but at this moment can't be arsed to use it. It was common knowledge in the press Newcastle was his first choice with our "tite budget" that we have apparently have got, that 3m could have been better spent elsewhere may as well have kept billy.

Do you really think he's lazy? That's not the impression i've got. I've seen him as industrious and with a good shot, at this moment I dont' know if he's going to be a success or not but whatever happens I don't think it'll be through lack of effort.

Where did it say Newcastle was Chedders first choice?

Many paper reports through the summer and because Newcastle came out and said they'd not be making any signings in the near future down he came to the lane. Yes i do think he is lazy comparing him to Hendo who isn't as gifted as ched but tries his best. Won't get into any arguments with you or anyone else on this we are all entitled to our opinion and i am just looking at where our whole transfer budget for the summer went.

Lee Morris and Curtis Woodhouse have got to be mentioned in there.

Billy Sharp?

I'm with davidpinder on this one. I think Evans is bone idle. In the Newcastle game it was embarrassing to compare Evans with Carroll, who had great movement, strength and ability - a real handful for our defenders.

I can't understand the 'he's only young' (Carroll's a couple of months younger) 'he's developing' 'give him time' rot. He's played for ManCity and Wales for god's sake. And putting effort in is irrespective of talent - for me Evan's doesn't earn his wages at all.

I'd say Lee and Curtis over-achieved at the Lane.

Sharp you definitely have a good shout with.

I don't know what game you were watching PlanB.

Evans was busy all the game and I thought started (for the first time) to really link up with Hendo. To compare him with Carroll is also massively unfair as they don't play the same way. You want to compare someone to Carroll then it should be Henderson.

I love the way some Blades fans support our young kids and then wonder why none of the big boys would let us near their talent.

Ched is 20 for Godsake and is obviously still settling in. His performances have been getting better each match and he didn't cost anything like £3 Million. That's just the chairman quoting the full maximum figure we will pay IF we get promotion and all the rest. I just think you are all expecting too much from a 20 year old who has started less than a dozen games who cost us £750,000.

I should be on the list. I always played my best but never quite achieved professional level:(

Ey up Seth ;-) Joking. I agree Bob - Hendo & Ched linked up well and carved out some good chances. It's too late now but McCabe could have done with keeping his trap shut regarding Ched.

:) I don't mind people having a pop at players who didn't play well (Quinny in the last game) but it seems to be a thing at United that once you have decided you don't rate a player you slate him regardless of the game he has just had.

Blackwell ought to have the stones to tell McCabe to keep quite about players maximum and transfer fees. Then again Blackwell would have to have the balls to take the flak himself to protect his players, so that will never happen.
To be honest I don't understand why KM thinks he needs to quote the £3 Million. Quoting the price of players doesn't increase season ticket sales as most people see the players name and decide if they think it is a good signing. I don't think more people buy tickets because they think we have signed a £3 Million Ched Evans any more than if he had just hadn't quoted a price. We all knew (or could look up) Ched's record at Norwich and we all knew he was an emerging talent that was going to be let go by Man City due to their new found fortune. The lad didn't need the extra pressure of the price tag, on a similar note I don't see what was to be gain by saying Hendo was £2 Million either. If they play well and do the business we don't care how much they cost. Just seems like a lose lose situation to get yourself in.

Can I nominate the whole of this years squad please (stretching a top 5 I know) :o

Of the top of my head and in no particular order and also from my time (started watching United in 1992)

- Don Hutchinson
- Graeme Stuart
- David White
- Vas Borbokis
- Danny Cadimateri?

A couple of these had some good games with us (Vas, Hutchy and Stuart) but on the most part were very frustrating as they had bags of ability but didn't perform week in week out.

Don't include any players under cheap as chips regime..............
it just aint fair.

This was supposed to be a general post really aimed at past players and ones at the lane now that could become under achievers i mentioned ched has underachieved at the moment it obviously started something deeper.

Lets change the post to past players who have under achieved please. Still thinking about mine.

I think you will find that most of his wages are paid by tv money and coporate sonsorships, whilst our money makes a small but not significant contribution to his wages ;)

I'd agree with you Bob, but some are not in that category. I'll be the first to say when Evans has a good game, when I see it. I haven't seen it yet.

I'd agree he showed more against Newcastle, but I disagree with your overall assessment. He showed more, but his performance still fell way short of what we require from our main striker.

We can debate how much we paid for Evans. For me it becomes a sideshow. We clearly paid enough to give him one of the main shirts. I'm seeing nothing to suggest he deserves it, or is going to deserve it. I'm desperate to be proved wrong.

Let's not get too precious about supporting Evans. During the game we should support all our players, and I do more than most. On message boards we're free to discuss their contributions. It will hardly affect them, and as Ched is away spending the £15K per week that my money contributes to, I doubt he's given this media a second thought.

You see Ched and see decent play and promise. I see none of it. We're free to disagree. Please don't suggest we're undermining the players by stating what we see. The only thing that's undermining United at the minute is a lack of ability to defend and hit the onion bag often enough. We have to look to Evans, not this message board, to put a big part of that right.

think £300 x 22,000 which is not exact and only an average season ticket but 6.6m that comes to, is a steady amount. plus £100,000 extra each week on tickets.

I would say they, along with Wayne Quinn, overachieved while with us. They were typical of the players we had during that period (i.e. not very good), but they obviously played well enough in some games that other clubs were willing to come in and pay well over the odds for them. Quite amazing that we got nearly £5million combined for them.

Here's 3 to start with:

1. Chris Guthrie (his fee for the time makes Ched look like a giveaway)

2. John Ebrell (see above)

3. Peter Hetherston (came down from Scotland with a rep as the next Jim Baxter...more like Stanley Baxter)

Good points Alco, don't agree with most of them though :)

I suppose my post was posted with the original question in mind. How a very young player who has started less than 12 games in a couple of month can already be included in an underachieving top 5 is beyond me. As someone else posted it was just another veiled pop at Evans.
I think we all realise he hasn't scored in every game or lit up the match, but surely making the point once or twice would be enough but not for some it seems.

Probably the pro Blackwell brigade looking to defend anything that has dared to be criticised
My five Ian Rush, Jimmy Johnstone, Billy Sharp, Steve Bruce and Phil Thompson
