Sheffield United have confirmed their interest in former England defender Ugo Ehiogu, reports BBC Radio Sheffield.

The 35-year-old currently plays for Scottish Premier League leaders Rangers but has made just one appearance for them this season.

Ehiogu joined the Gers on a free transfer from Middlesbrough in January 2007 after spending three months on-loan at Leeds United.

Discussions between the Championship side and Rangers are continuing.

Rangers Better be paying us to take him off their hands

It would suggest to me, if true, that either Lucky or Morgs......or both may be on their way.

35 FFS! still younger than speed :D

your up next to be signed SF!

Lets face it, he was fantastic a few years ago. But that was then and this is now.

I can't help but think this would be an awful signing.

Maybe it's solely to replace Lucketti as 4th choice CB and will therefore be very unlikely to feature unless in absolute emergency. In which case I'm OK with that.

If that is the case it may not be a bad idea...... BUT on the same hand, I see no reason to be rid of Lucketti. I would imagine though that Ehiogu would command more wages than Lucki, and if that is the case then I see no point.

Anyways, thats a lot of ifs and buts.

I'd prefer to hang on to Lucky but I thought a couple of clubs were after him.

As long he is emergency cover then fine - dont we have any young players for that - academy ??

Why in the name of all that's sensible would we want to sign Ehiogu? We might as well paint an ice cream van in red and white stripes and park that on the pitch. I wouldn't even sign him as back-up for the surly chavs on the pie stall.

killa and ehiogu at the back
could work :p
experience to keep a cool head, and killa to do what he does best

I can't help but be disollusioned with this one if true. I thought we were supposed to be rebuilding?

I'm sorry but if the future is buying in players of this age then it looks bleak to me.

It's got to be bad business sense as well, I mean who is gonna want to buy players of this age when we're done with them?
If he joins he'll probably end up at Chesterfield on a free next season.

Watch this space!

I Said/Thought a similar thing about Stuart McCall when we signed him.

The future for who?, would you think people such as Mr Kilgallon and out other young defenders would benefit from someone with such experience and a calm, been there done that attitude?

If he does sign, we aren't trying to build a team around him thats for sure!
