Of additional officials.
You know the ones. They stand on the goal line and have never been known to do a fucking thing other than block some poor sods view.
Blades related on the grounds well be in Europe season after next.
Spurious claim but what the hell. It's a talking point.

Whilst i agree that linos and refs can on occaision be pointless.
These plant pots on the goal line NEVER haven't been.

Why stop there, fucking refs are worse.

I am inclined to give (most) refs a bit of Ieaway, simply because they have more to do and keep an eye on. But most linos can't even spot a clear foul 5ft from them.

Take your point though, some utter planks out there.

What was that ridiculous stick thing they gave them to hold?

Someone may as well announce the cessation of linesman too, for what fucking use they are.

They'll be gone soon enough. Cameras and lazers will be able to do the job far better in the near future. I can't see the man in the middle being replaced any time soon, but I can easily imagine technology replacing lino's.

But what about stretch linos?

If they get rid of the bloke in the middle, who’s going to do the coin toss.

That old fool in front of the south stand on Saturday, christ almighty, I thought it was Corporal Jones from Dad's Army, dithering about with his flag, scared to move it one way or another until the ref had given his verdict on whose throw in it was, so he could "agree" with the decision.

One of my mates was good friends with a linesman who officiated at League one and two level. The officials are allowed to take two guests and I had a few good days out and it was interesting and revealing to observe the different approach referees take.
Certain refs tell the linos to flag for throw ins, corners and offsides but leave the big decisions to them. Hence why you often see the linesman hesitate and look for the ref to give the decision. It's a power thing.
A minority of referees will give a good pre match prep talk and give his assistants confidence in making decisions.

I guess I just dreamed that one of them gave a penalty against the hosts in the first game of Euro 2016

Well I don't think those refs come to BDTBL mate, when was the last time any of us saw the lino raise his flag straight away to show who gets a throw in?, 9 times out of 10 they stand looking at the ref with the flag down, until he shows which way he thinks it should go.

This seems to have been a change in recent years, I don't remember it being like that in the past but maybe it was and my memory is playing tricks.

The refs and linesmen all have mics nowadays so the hesitation before flagging is probably down to them talking before they indicate a decision.
