I'd add to that, had United had a training session earlier in the day? We know this has happened before and would reflect why players looked lethargic.
I don't think that was the cause. The team was set up to accommodate Carruthers, Evans and a bit of Brooks. We are using the Reserves as a rehabilitation area. I can assure you watching the 23s with the youngsters who have played together for some time is a totally different proposition to what you saw on Monday.

Sorry. I'm a bit late to this party.
But, I've finally completed by Beer & Ball Blog from a disappointing evening at the U23s.

One other thing Phil do you not think Regan Slater getting cautioned, rightly so, so early, curbed his natural game which was a big loss to the team. I like the boy but he does need to tone it down a bit in this day of tackling where the ref thinks the tackle could endanger an opponent. I fear Regan is getting a reputation with the officials

While we all loved Wilder`s comments about Slater `cementing` an Ipswich player in the Cup it promotes, and encourages the art of strong tackling, which is sadly going out of the game.

Truth is these days, you can win the ball and be sent off, I think Slater needs to adapt his game, which will come with experience.

I'm not so sure mate. He's learning. And there'll be hard lessons down the track. At this stage, I'd just make him understand his responsibilities & encourage him to get on with it.
IMHO he's far from it being a problem.
I do worry about Jake Wright Jnr though. He just gets too distracted by "the feuds"

Jake's been like that as long as I can remember but I think we lost a bit from Regan with him carrying a booking so early Still have them in my side any day.

Preslav Borukov, capped at youth level, but not full I think. He's only 17. I was told about him and an 18yr old bulgarian at leeds called Kun Temenuzhkov, both are meant to be stars in waiting.
Capped at full level tonight and scored on his debut
