Went to Stocksbridge for the U23s game today. Hardly ever watch the U23s so don't know too much about them but, as far as I know, it was a very young team today.

Crewe were the better team pretty much throughout and I didn't think any of the United starters particularly stood out. I did like the look of Harrison Neal who came on in the second half though. Constantly showing for the ball, composed in possession and neat and tidy - a touch of the Coutts about him.

One of the things I am always interested in, especially as someone who coaches kids football, when I do see the U23s is to listen to Travis Binnion during the game. He comes across really well - specific and clear in his instructions, tries to be positive but not afraid to let players know when he's not happy.

Could've added the score, you know, just to help us out a bit?

To be fair though Cooper the Under 23's are devoid of a raft of players who would play at this level as they're out on loan. I'm thinking not only of the older first team squad players but also some promising youngsters like Sam Graham, Rhys Norrington-Davies, Calum Semple and Tyler Smith. Parkhouse and Dewhurst have gone today too and ultimately the more that go out on loan for experience the better, even if it means our under 23's will be seriously weakened, because you can't beat playing senior football.
