This is from the club website:

United's U18s made it eight consecutive league victories with a hard fought success against Championship opposition in the capital at the weekend.

Jordan Hallam's 18th goal of the season from the penalty spot in the first-half was enough to defeat the R's as Travis Binnion's side set a new club record in the modern era with this win.

United started brightly and forced an early corner, from which Semple fired over, then from Hallam's inswinging free-kick, the young centre-half was flagged offside with the goal at his mercy.

Tyler Smith then combined with Hallam, but wasted the subsequent opportunity, before Hallam was bundled over in the box, but no penalty was awarded. At the other end, the home side should have gone in front in the 23rd minute, but from point blank range the header was straight at the grateful Ramsdale.

And that missed proved costly for Rangers, who found themselves behind three minutes later. Brown saw his headed saved from Gilmour's cross and a retreating R's defender could only foul Hall, who had reacted first to the rebound. HALLAM confidently stepped up to fire home the resulting spot-kick to put the Blades in the ascendency.
The remained of the first-half petered out with little in the way of goalmouth action, although who was the visitors who enjoyed plenty of possession.

United were also quickly out of the blocks after the interval, with Tyler Smith and Hallam again having opportunities in the opening five minutes of the second period.

But in the final half hour it was QPR who really probed and pushed in search of an equaliser, but the Blades defended resolutely as a team and made all three changes in quick succession in a bid to see the game out.

In the end the R's were restricted to a few set-pieces and a couple of long-range efforts as
United held on for another deserved win and a second consecutive clean sheet on the road as they home in on a top two finish.

Blades: Ramsdale, Cummings, Brown, Gilmour, Adebowale, Semple, T. Smith (Gordon 79), Ford, Hall (Litchfield 69), Hallam, K. Smith (Mallon 63).
Unused: Maw, Warhurst.

While not a bad thing that the youngsters are doing well, I wouldn't get too carried away just yet. The above was the team that reached the FA youth cup final a few seasons back.

Maguire has clearly done very well, and George Long seems to be coming on as well. But with these 2 exceptions the rest have hardly set the world on fire. Kennedy might have gone on to something if he didn't have the knees of an 80 year old, but now we'll never know.

For a minute, I thought we were talking about the first team, until I read this.....

"...United were also quickly out of the blocks after the interval,..."

Only joking, all three youth set ups are doing very well at the moment, and if this team have set a new record in the modern era, then you would have to say that possibly they are better than the team that included Long and Maguire.

Hope your right Grappler, because that's what we're going to need to get out of this bloody division. The board are never going to spend enough to get us out, and whenever we get one or two decent players come along it's never quite enough for us to go up, just enough for them to be noticed then sold on.

Ideally we need a great crop of players, say 4 or 5 (maybe a tad ambitious), to all come in at the same time.

AND Muppet Cue, ....................scrap the Academy thread.

A fair number of these young players have a chance of making it,but it's early in there careers to tell who will come through and who
will fall away. These are players who we hope will come through at the next level as it will be a few years before we see the benefits of them.
With the budget and size of this club any decent manager should be able to get us to the next level, the problem is we dont give them the time to finish the job.Of all the managers we've had while in div 1 only weir was floundering, all the others including clough would have got us up.
I accept Clough may have gone for reasons we will never know but he would in my opinion done the job,but not maybe .
in the way we would want .
So now we have Adkins who will in my opinion get us up,maybe not this season (it's still possible ) but given the time and the resources we have his record suggests he will do it.He can be criticised for some failings this season but plenty of managers don't hit the ground running but given time are successful. Going back to our resources and budget it will pay off if we stick to a plan and I think the owners and Adkins
already have this in place. It's that jam today rather than tomorrow which the board and us fans have given into, hopefully they have seen the light and will not be panicked if seeson ticket numbers fall (which they will ) .As I have posted before a change of manager is the last thing we
want ( are you listening Barney ) as starting the procedure again is just not on.
As Adkins has often stated ( and he's right ) United together we can do it at all levels the young lads are proving this.
