Not going to try and do a deadbat as my recall isn't good enough. Just a few observations.

George Willis - definitely better than Long at the same age, he is not better at shot stopping BUT he is a far better talker and organiser than Long is even now, plus his decision making in when to come out seems better than Long's at a similar stage in his career.

The back 4 (Hodder, Evans, Banton, Kedman) all seemed a little weak in the first half, especially Kedman (who looked about 11) and Evans who just seemed to struggle. All did better 2nd half.

Midfield (Smith, Whitehouse, DiMaio, Johns) did reasonably well although Whitehouse disappointed me, I used to watch the U18's every home game and he seems to have stalled in his development. If Johns could cross as well as he runs with the ball he'd be one hell of a player, deceptively quick with the ball. Smith ran at them well in the first half but again lacked a decent final ball on a couple of occasions.

Front 2 (Eyre, Khan) both impressed although unsurprisingly given their age they lacked a bit of strength.

I've maintained for a few years now that he's the best keeper we've got. :)

Should we be sending him out on loan? So he is ready for the first team if needed.

In an ideal world it could be worthwhile, it's just a lot more difficult for a keeper, each team obviously only needs one first team keeper and I wouldn't think many at L2 or Conference level would be looking at loaning an 18 year old. Any lower than that and I'm not sure it would benefit him.

Known young George since he was 8 and was actually present when he was spotted by the scouts playing for Wickersley Youth at their annual tourny. Had a blinder in the final and even at that age he was fearless and was diving at players feet like a good un and it didn't take much to realise he could have a big future in the game given some hard work and a bit of luck along the way

It's going to be a nightmare for me trying to figure out who's playing for the U18s tomorrow looking at today's squad...

Two 16 year olds in the back 4 is an encouraging sign though, glad to see them get a result against them lot again. I was aiming to go until they decided to change it to an afternoon game rather than a 7pm kick off :(

I have to agree about Whitehouse. He is definitely a player who needs to go out on loan and get regular first team football to kick start his development again.

Also, I pointed this out the other day and I'll say it again... why are we playing Smith wide? Khan is a midfielder and has played on the right many times. Smith should be playing through the middle.

What's happened to the lad from New Caledonia, Mickael Partodikromo ? Is he still with us or injured ?

Foxy and oaklandrdblade regarding Whitehouse, I seem to remember during preseason last season he was getting tipped for first team outings and played a decent role in friendlies (again from what I remember) but I think he picked up an injury (shoulder?) and that was the last that we saw of him.

I thought he was almost ready from what I read, but as you say he seems to have stalled. Is that potential still there?

It's difficult for me to say Swiss, I used to watch the U18's regularly and he for me was the stand out player in the Youth Cup final team, but I haven't really seen him since he moved up from that age group. He was a real 'box to box' midfielder with an eye for goal (Double cliché alert!) at that level. I agree with what Daz said further up he needs a loan spell (3 months) to get some games in and then we can see if he still has it.

we have a terrific legacy of our youth development providing some real quality, lets hope it continues to come up with the occasional diamond

I guess the difference now is that the experience that he would get would be 4th Div, whereas before (when we were championship) players would get 3rd div loans... It seems that there is a huge gulf between upper half of the 3rd tier and the lower. But yes a loan (change of scenery and opening his eyes to lower standard facilities) might benefit.

Without going too far off topic, this was perhaps the vision for the likes of Fradi, Lowton benefitted from going to a club managed in the "blades way" and his progress could be monitored within our control... to an extent.

Any other starlets in the making v the piggies then?

Thought our central midfield pair Whitehouse and Dimaio got the better of theirs who have both played
in championship for wendy. All our midfield and forwards showed promise but making the next step up
is another matter, best they can hope for at this moment in time is being on the bench.
With the impending newcomers I agree with the above Whitehouse will need to move out.
