How is this only 2 seasons ago? Am I being stupid?

With all the ins, outs, club sale, playoff final, Selles, points deduction, George, Bash's leg, 92 points, we've had that much news, it feels like that group played for us 5 years ago.

That's a ridiculous turn over of players. It's a wonder we can pass to each other, never mind put winning runs together.

And out of the wreckage of that CWAK+ built a team which scored 92 points - but apparently weren't entertaining enough...

No inside forwards (8 and 10). No wonder we got relegated.
To be fair, we were holding those shirts for Hamer and Archer. One out of two there isn't bad.

A quick where are they now...

1 Adam Davies - still backup at United, although Cooper's injury means he's playing until the end of the season
2 George Baldock - 😭
3 Max Lowe - crossed the great divide to play for South Barnsley Midweek. Currently injured.
4 John Fleck - at Chesterfield but he's only played 11 minutes since early December owing to a shin injury
5 Auston Trusty - moved on to Celtic after one underwhelming season. We somehow turned a profit on him too
6 Chris Basham - forced to retire after picking up a horror injury away at Fulham 😢
7 Rhian Brewster - released after an injury-plagued time at the Lane, now trequartista-ing Derby to the fringes of the play offs
[8 Gustavo Hamer - still at United but likely to move on in the summer]
9 Oli McBurnie - lived the dream in Gran Canaria for a season, brought back down to earth by signing for Humberside Jungle Cats last summer. Has scored 13 as they mount an unlikely promotion push
[10 Cameron Archer - only here on a glorified loan deal, as soon as the results started really going against us he disappeared. Sold to Southampton in 2024, he's currently on 2 goals in 24 Championship appearances this season]
11 Benie Traoré - data-led signing whose stature was against him. Sold on to Basel for a small profit and is still there
12 John Egan - moved on a free to Burnley in 2024 but barely played before leaving for Humberside JCs where he's teamed up with McBurnie for some playoff disappointment
15 Anel Ahmedhodzic - sold to Feyenoord last summer after we lost the play off final
16 Oli Norwood - quarterbacking Stockport's promotion push from L1
17 Ismaila Coulibaly - three years after being linked with AC Milan, he's on LASK's bench in the Austrian top flight
18 Wes Foderingham - moved from United to pick up the easy paycheck as West Ham's third keeper, now at ARIS Limassol in Cyprus
19 Jack Robinson - picking up a paycheck and the ball at Birmingham
20 Jayden Bogle - engineered a move to Leeds last summer in a deal which suited all parties - we got £8m for a want-away player in the last year of his deal; Leeds got promoted
21 Vini Souza - went through a redemption arc but left for Wolfsburg in the summer after we lost to Sunderland. Dreams of playing for Brazil at the World Cup have been dashed on the rocks of a Bundesliga relegation battle
23 Ben Osborn - moved to Derby in 2024 then on to Stockport last summer
25 Anis Ben Slimane - another one who never really fitted in at United, we moved him on to Norwich last summer
27 Yasser Larouci - spent last season on loan at Watford, now at lower-mid-table Greek Superl League team Kifisia
31 Marcus Dewhurst - Balham Jnr Snr is very excited about meeting him on Saturday at Hampton & Richmond where he's on loan from Aldershot
32 Will Osula - last seen chasing his bad touch across the Camp Nou turf in a nice analogy for Newcastle's performance against Barcelona. Linked with a big-money move which would be great for United given our 20% sell on clause
33 Rhys Norrington-Davies - bombed out to QPR by Sellés after an awful performance against Bristol City. Probably back in the red and white next season
36 Daniel Jebbison - sulked his way to a deal at PL titans Bournemouth, hit the headlines by missing from 2 yards before heading to Preston on loan this season
37 Jordan Amissah - short term deal at Ross County after leaving United, joined Burton in the summer

Christ, that graphic almost makes this summers recruitment look half decent… there’s no wonder we find ourselves in this position considering the absolute dross we’ve brought in over the last couple of years.

All things considered, Wilders worked a minor miracle being where we are now.

The last Prem season was unusual in the sense it was about accumulating wealth not spending it. This included the sale of our two biggest assets still on the books (Berge, Ndiaye)..

We spent Prem money on Hamer. That's it really. All our expensive assets have been offloaded with the exception of Hamer. Our current major assets are Hamer and academy players that have emerged since then. This largely explains the make up of the squad. The exception is Cannon and the big money signings this summer (Chong, Mcguinness, Matos, Tanganga). All of them look like they aren't worth the output and will be offloaded for big lossees reducing our ability to turn over the squad. The big issue at our club (despite all the misdirection re management) is the lack of quality players on the books.

The biggest thing for me is how recent this squad was. My memory makes this squad feel like it's much further into the past. The turnover in players is probably contributing to that feeling as we're literally unrecognisable.

Just mad that only 2 years ago, we looked like this. For reference - No Peck, Blaster, Hamer, COH, Cooper, Brooks, Seriki. Kieffer Moore has had a United 'career' in the interim. I'm probably wrong, but I can't think of time when we changed so many players, so quickly.

Jesus. Only 2 still here and one of those is out on loan. I hadn't realised the churn was that bad either.

Wes is playing for a team called ARSE? 🤣

Hard to believe we have had prem and patachute money but not improved one position.

Have a like for No 19 alone. 😂

Whilst I sort of concur with your general point, I would say Cooper is an upgrade (when fit) over any of the keepers in that list. I'd also take almost any of our current CB's over Jack Robinson (almost any)

I am slightly surprised people are surprised. Last year was a huge rebuild and what Wilder did to help drag us to 90 points was remarkable and yet for some it wasn't good enough. It was and still is baffling we got rid
Sadly it wasn’t good enough if promotion to PL was the aim.
Getting rid of him without a replacement of greater stature/quality was the baffling bit.
Our difficulty is finding anyone better at this level and beyond. There probably are some who would come but recruiting them is our weakness.

Add to that list the additions of :
13 Grbic - on loan in Turkey for the past 2 seasons. Probably only ever made it because his dad was president of Hajduk Split.
14 Thomas - still at Leicester, staring at relegation and a Wednesday-like fall from grace.
22 Tom Davies - still here, keeping the medical team busy.
28 McAtee - left the Man City bench to be on the bench at relegation threatened Forest.
30 Holgate - on loan at Al-Sailiya in the Qatari League from fellow footballing titan Al-Gharafa. Only notable action being sent off for a hideous tackle against Brighton.

That was a squad barely good enough for the Championship.

Wes is playing for a team called ARSE? 🤣
To be fair out of anyone of the recent era of our players, he has probably worked the easiest 2 numbers to retirement. West Ham number 3 keeper for a season without playing a single game, rumoured to be £1.4 million a year. Then onto a 2 year contract in Cyprus rumoured to be £125K a year by which time he will be 36. Not a bad career end, unless he decides to extend for more time in the sun he can retire quite easily.

It's one of the worst PL squads ever assembled, which isn't surprising considering it finished the season as one of the very worst efforts the PL has ever seen.

I disagree, I would say on balance our squad now is better than that so-called Premier League squad in most positions.
Souza and Anel are the obvious ones we haven't, apart from Bamford and to some point Hamer I can't think of anymore.
