Ah, yes - the Noble Doctor as we used to call him . Saw his debut in the late 50's in a 4 - 2 win against a strong Blackburn side on Boxing Day when his signing was announced just before the match started and most people in the ground new fuck all about it !

What a debut it was , surpassed only by that of TC and he went on to become an all time Blades hero , not least for running Peter Swan ragged every time he played against him.

Happy days.

Samir. What a dead loss he’s been ?

‘The holy trinity’ one poster says.

Duffy Coutts and Fleck.

Fleck will leave for nowhere near enough money. Leaving us, yet again, fucked. This time through our own doings.

Fleck is an excellent player but for the teams that can afford him he wouldn’t get into there side. He’s not as good as the top 7 teams midfielders. He would do well at Leeds etc but do they have the money that we need?

“The money we need” - oh don’t worry about that. I’m sure McCabe could haggle them down to what they could afford. “We want £5m or no deal” “we can stretch to £750k”. “Deal”

Yes I was there Joe took everyone by surprise ,no media in them days to keep you in the picture. Was it Joe Mercer that signed him?.
Mercer became villa manager soon after I think United wernt sorry to lose him as he didn't do much for us.Apart from the DDoc course who was a real war horse on the pitch but a gentleman off it.
Had a short chat with him at the top rank when the blades revival was opened, he died not long after as silent posted.

Keep saying he's not enough bladez might keep the suitors away !.He is good enough but we don't want to lose him do we ?
More to come from Fleck I think, great fitness levels and never misses a match apart from suspension s ,which he will always be acceptable to with his competitive. style.Great free transfer by. Wilder

Very good point.

Remember Wallace.

Or Lecsinel Jean-François
?

Promise of a pre-season friendly? That never happened?

It's all about balance . Freeman just makes it happen .as does Coutts. Its that something hard to define where theres an almost telepathic understanding of when to go or stay . Pass or move with the ball.
It's like when Chelsea are without Hazard and Kante . The creativity and steel drop alarmingly. They are key components in our engine room. With them we are like a formula one engine . Without them a Ford 1200 eco . Gets you so far but not the thrills

I am a big Baldock fan, he has the mould for a premiership right back, pace , 6ft , starts counter attack’s. All in all a very good player.

Freeman doesn’t have that electric pace, and I don’t think he is as good a footballer. However Freeman’s end product is premiership standard. His goal against Bristol shows that. He did an excellent pass to Billy the week before which nearly played him straight in.

We have some serious competition for that RWB slot. Could Freeman play the Basham role?

If I’m honest we have a history of selling players as we all know. The best ones leave quite quickly too. We will see if someone throws money at us he will go regardless.

He wouldn’t get in Fulham or Derby’s team after watching them last night. Villa have a dream team squad anyway and Boro they have loads of midfielders (however he may get into there side).

After that it’s like teams like Millwall / Preston / Bristol who we are better than anyway.

Boldock is not 6ft tall is he ?,looks smaller than that

The opposition need to nip into the changing rooms to allow us to get ahead?

Pace got the nick name Doc because he did his national service in the medical core.
Great header of the ball who would run through a brick wall to score a goal, think we got him from Villa ?

Yes, scored a hat trick for them against us and then he scored a hat trick for us against them!

...with Ched up top being the icing on the trinity cake ( after a full pre-season obvs)

£15 million...there it is!

Since when was 5ft 8" close to 6ft??

175cm on the SUFC official site

Was he wearing platform boots?, not doubting you mate but he looks smaller than Billy and not much taller than Flecky!

I’ll change my original post to a decent size much easier. We only need to argue about inches with the woman not between the men.

We need two players as good as each other in every position. I don't reckon we've got it anywhere else in the squad apart from Duffy/Brooks.

WB in our system is such an important role. If Freeman and Baldock both get 25 games each (all comps), both will have had a good season.

Against quicker, more direct wingers, Baldock gets the nod. Against teams we can get at from deep, Freeman. Neither play more than three games in a row before we rest them and we're looking at two fresh players every time they play, pushing each other to be 'number one'. Also, if one does get an injury or suspension, you're not absolutely fucked and unbalanced like we were when Coutts got injured.

If you have 5/6 of the positions with two equally good players (with different strengths and weaknesses) and the other 4/5 positions with regulars (JOC/Fleck etc) that's how you do well these days.I think part of the reason of our demise was having too many 'regulars', which just wasn't sustainable over the long hard slog of the Championship. FOr example, Coutts getting injured meant we had to play Lundstram (who I really like btw) but he just wasn't ready to fill Coutts' boots because he'd hardly had any football all season because Coutts played every week.
