Two players in? What do we need?

I think if Blackman stays that the best we will be able to bring in is Lee Williamson (which at CHristmas is all I thought we needed)

If Blackman goes I think we are going for either Duffy or Wotherspoon on the right handside. Raul or another Hibby will have to say whether Wotherspoon is good enough.

After that we need a striker in the ilk of DJ Campbell or Earnshaw etc; I know it won't be DJ Campbell but I feel this type of striker will give us something different to what we have already.

COuld also do with a loanee central midfielder like Tunnicliffe at Manure who hasn't gone out on loan yet.

Let us hope for an exciting couple of days but if we lose Blackman and improve with 3 players I am all in. If we lose Blackman and still only get a couple of loans and a free tansfer like Williamson I think the bottom will fall out of this club.

Collins for Captain

Higgo for captain. Not seen Collins step up enough when he has been skipper

I despair at times, no point debating with some people. You don't give 3 yr contracts to the over 30's but we have, we also found a good solution for Montgomery. Now Cresswell might not fancy Australia fair enough but come on there must be a place where he can earn his money rather than 2 minute cameo's when a game is lost. Before anyone says he is coaching don't make me laugh he is new to it and untried just like Morgan is ........................... well paid noobs, neither seem to be making an impression in that job we are still shot shy and give daft goals away. If Cresswell was on £10k a week I would love someone to work out how much he costs per minute on the pitch, little wonder the club with the largest attendances in league one struggle to bring players in while the likes of Stevenage and Crawley manage just fine.

If rumours are true Doyle and Collins were on 8k and Cresswell was close to £12k before the season started. Doyle and Collins have reduced their wages to around 6 and Cresswell is not getting teh respect he deserves for reducing his wage to have an extra year just as coach.

If these things hadn't happened Blackman would have been gone already, we would have had no money for any emergency loans and we wouldn't be having conversations about how we could strengthen with 2 extra players because there would have been no chance.

You can bang on and on about how poor value they are. You are pushing on an open door. Everyone accepts this. That really isn't the point. They have that contract and however much we don't like it, we have to honour it.

"come on there must be a place where he can earn his money " name one then? We've established he's a waste of money, so who else makes the mistake of taking him off us?

So, if you can accept the bleeding obvious, then the next step is what we do. We are above the FFP rules. At the start of this season, if we'd said "no new signings, hope for the best this year until the contracts expire" - you'd have been right behind that decision? Honestly?

Pay cut, longer contract with a coaching role - by far the best option of a number of bad ones.

This thread is a perfect example of why you get the responses you do. You have a beef with the way we're run. So do I. But unlike you, I won't let that annoyance cloud every single view I have on the club.

I would be ecstatic if we could get Murphy from Crewe as per some suggestions. Looked class when we played them. Reckon he's out of our range though.

Definitely the type of player we need, both good enough to get us up and good enough to play in the Champ.

I hope those trialists aren't the rumoured signings. Hardly pulled up any trees between them and nothing to suggest they'll turn this ship around.

I hope these aren't the two that are apparently coming in this week. I'd hope that we were looking at players that can come straight into the team.

I note that no one has mentioned bringing in a keeper. After the recent abuse that George received, I'm glad that supporters seem to have forgiven him. Well done George, we can spend money elsewhere.

I would never slag a young player off ,but he needs resting from the first team as soon as Howard is fit. We are conceding far to many soft goals the defence looks like its shitting itself and he doesn't have a strong enough presence and personality yet to pull through it. He may become permanently damaged by leaving him in , in my opinion ,give him a rest and bring him in later when he has built up a bigger personality in the club.

Freeman reportedly off the boil at Stevenage and I am surprised no-one has come in for him before now. Is there an issue there?

I liked the look of the Crewe front three against us this season; lots of pace and movement. Particularly Pogba and Dalla Valle. Now back at Fulham after scoring 5 in 10. At the very least a loan move?

Not sure about Duffy, Taylor at Shrewsbury isn't a bad shout, but I suspect we may end up feeling disappointed who we sign. The reality is some hard working L1 players with a decent work wthic may be what we need. Take Ryan Lowe, played his part in getting the Pork promoted , left for MK and will score goals for them no doubt. Not saying we want a Ryan lowe type striker, more that a decent L1/L2 striker might be an option rather than a PL or Champ cast off. (I know that kind of negates my Dalla Valle suggestion!)

Delle Valle looked a very good player ,Have Reading ,Palace or ANother fc got some players we can take in exchange I wonder ?

Problem is this is the pond we are fishing in. Thats the one thing that I do get fed up with hearing. We should sign this player and that player, unfortunately there are at least 40 clubs who are probably ahead of us in the pecking order these days.

You are right to raise doubts about Freeman, he's nowhere near the player some on here make him out to be and IMO should be left well alone.

He was on the bench when they came here and got spanked a couple of months ago. That set alarm bells ringing for me...

No idea where this Freeman love-in comes from (I'm going to blame SwissBlade though :))

He played OK against the jaded United side at the end of last season in the 2-2 draw at the Lane but was up against a disinterested and below-par Williamson. He didn't look fit though and I think was taken off after about 65 mins.

He has a decent first touch but is even more immobile than our other options in the wide and attacking midfield spaces and so we shouldn't be going anywhere near him.

Heard some strange rumor about us trying to sign Tom Pope, it'll never happen though but it would be a great signing for getting out of this league imo. Luke Murphy would be a class signing but I've heard Stoke were after him.Not seen enough of Freeman to comment but I've ot heard much about the two on trial, what they supposed to be like? O'Halloran quality? :(

I've seen freeman a couple of times. Looked decent and I admit to bigging him up.

O'Halloran quality

It's right up there with Thatcher compassion and Blade Too Long knocking for me.

Not sure Freeman is what we need. We need a right sided midfielder and possibly a forward (definitely a forward if Blackman goes).

But these are players that have been rejected by teams that are below us in the league and seemingly not hell bent on trying to get out of the divsion.

Of course we've to be realistic when looking at the calibre of player but the two trialists smack of another Philliskirk type player - neither good enough or ever likely to be good enough for the first team.

For me, we've got to be signing players that are a) young enough to develop b) good enough to get us out of the division and c) good enough to stay in the 1st team should be manage to get promoted. That's got to be the long term goal. We can sign players to get us up, then what? We're left with rebuilding a team in the summer. Get it right first time around and we have a solid base to build on.

Questions..

1. Luke Freeman - Is this a rumour that we're in for him or is it wishful thinking? He was the best player to visit Bramall Lane last season... Twice!
2. Mark Duffy - Are we still in for him? Last season he was awesome at the lane. This season he was absent as were his 10 team mates.
3. Baxter - see Luke freeman (obvs with the exception of him being good last year)

If we got these 3 in that would be quality but I think 1&3 are just fan pipe dreams and we're not even in for them??

Andy Williams at Swindon. I was impressed with him at Yeovil last year and is another quality shout BTW
