Two decent, quick lads in the forward line

And he cost £3m/£20k Per Week while you are at it.

Whats your point? Its all about money?

On Cofie, just seen this about Poleon, Wilson said:

He is young, raw and unpredictable, but he is quick and offers pace defenders won't like to defend against. "He can offer us a lot both in terms of starting games and also as an impact substitution from the bench. We need that extra striker and if we are to be successful we need as many strikers available as possible.

This was what he said about Cofie when he signed:

He has the pace and the ability to cause defences all sorts of problems and most importantly he scores goals.

Cofie said this about himself:

I like to play on the shoulder of defenders and try to use my pace and power to make goalscoring opportunities for myself and my team-mates.

The point I was making is that you can't just look at the recent (2 game) success of two players that you like.

Did we ever play Cofie in the position he likes? He seemed to rarely play in the way that he liked

By the way I'm not pointing fingers at anyone at the club or even Cofie, i'm just trying to remain objectional about why a particular player with pace and the atributes which seem to be working for Murphy and Forte (in 2 games) didn't work out for Cofie.... Because looking at it on paper, we will have a similar player to Cofie in Poleon.

If we just dismiss Cofie as shit or a failed talent, then why are we prepared to bring in a similar player to him? Will we adapt our game so that Poleon can play off the shoulder of the defenders? Or will he have to adapt his game to play on the wing?

You'll be deleting Chappell from your hypothesis, then?

No. Feel free to discount him if you want to.

I thought he had a decent game at Notts County, ran on the ball a few times, made himself available out wide and tried to get crosses in. Him doing so helped us stretch them and meant other players had more room and time on the ball. We'll have to agree to disagree on him having pace, but Danny Wilson and Gary Rowett (who brought him to Burton) have also described him as a pacey winger.

Ahh, but i meant yours towards Bergs' thread.

Anyway we're up to nearly two pages so you'll have forgotten what it's all been about in a couple of posts.

Seriously, I would suggest he had a poor attitude on the majority of occasions I saw him and whether this was because he perceived he was out of position or even in the wrong league, he did appear less than 100% committed to the cause.

During his stay here, did you think he was decent at stretching the opposition?

I think he was disappointing. He had the pace and skill and was probably selected with 'stretching the opposition' in mind. He should be included in your figures in my opinion.

Just because he didn't have a successful time here doesn't mean he's not quick or decent which is why your data is selective and you've changed the criteria.

Not dissing your thread though Bergs, I can see what you're getting at.

Do you think that Ched was a bad player? For a long time he had a terrible goal scoring record, same for Billy Sharp. Yet put them in a team that plays to THEIR strengths, you see Ched bang in 35 goals and Billy Sharp have enormous success at Donny.

I think Ched played poorly for us in the Championship, superbly in League One. But I think there will be even more confusion if we start discussing him as well in this thread.

Cofie, as I said showed that he had a decent touch, excellent pace. But it was very rarely seen.

For whatever reason - we seem to agree that he very rarely was able to show his pace.

Changed the criteria? The reasons for Cofie's exclusion was explained in the opening post. I threw in the word 'decent' in the title to show that I wasn't talking about just pace alone.

The same was said about Ched until he bagged 35 goals...

But they aren't analysing the likelihood of Cofie coming good - they are examining what has happned this season. Cofie wasn't decent for us, he was simply crap.

I take you point that it doesn't mean he is going to be crap. You can argue that Evans proves this. You could argue that as Evans was awful for 2 years in a higher division, he just found his Level. Perhaps Cofie didn't.

Selling the top scorer not jog your memory or are you that easily led astray?

Wilson has used the money wisely and we now have a better balanced side. Selling a prized asset has happened before - and not just by SUFC. Most clubs do it at some stage.

We brought 2 players in on loan at the death - after agreeing to sell our top scorer a week earlier. We may or may not have come out stronger - but let's not be fooled that this was part of planned restructuring. It was a short sighted sale for some quick cash, followed by a panic sweep of whatever players were left on the scrap heap.

How do you explain Murphy's purchase then?

we finally have pace
AND
POLEON is said to be a bit nifty

surely this is what we have been crying out for, yes its not welbeck and van persie, but fast enough for this division

I am not trying to explain why we signed a player who may or may not turn out good for us. I'm damning the decision to sell one who was definitely good for us, and subsequent last ditch transfers. They weren't planned to be last ditch because........they weren't planned. If the business was done a few days earlier, I could give McCabe the benefit of the doubt for the umpteenth time.

Have some become so gullible to believe that Blackman was sold for strategic reasons? If you are so gullible, ask yourself why McCabe said "I hope he stays"

UTB

I still don't see where selling a decent young player after 5 months and replacing him with a loan is for anything other than short term financial gain. Now if McCabe had come out and said we need the money rather than "I hope he stays - we don't need to sell - we will be bringing in 2 or 3 irrespective of whether Blackman goes or stays blah blah blah" much of the resulting fury of the fans would not have materialised. KM is a bullshitter plain and simple and more and more fans are seeing this now, he is his own worst enemy.
