Our line up at Leeds was:

Simonsen
Calve Bartley Nosworthy Jordan
Cresswell Montgomery Britton Ertl Quinn
Evans
This is a team that has very little creativity in central midfield, no pace or dribbling ability out wide and a struggling lone central striker.

At Hull yesterday we lined up with:

Simonsen
Calve Morgan Nosworthy Jordan
Yeates Ertl Britton Quinn Cresswell
Bogdanovic
I don't think this is a perfect team either, but it is a little better. Quinn is better technically than Monty and is more likely to get a goal, so offers a little more going forward. In Yeates we have the closest to an out and out winger as we have at the moment and he is in form. Bogdanovic is (from what I've seen) a little more mobile than Evans, and a bit more eager to get in behind teams, although he's not very quick either. With some added movement, Cresswell's lack of winger qualities aren't as missed, and in such a line up I think he'll be more likely to get chances.

I think Speed has learned a couple of things from his first few line ups which brought too few goals. While I think we've got a lot more things to put right, at least we've made some tweaks and judging by our last couple of results the changes have helped us improve.

Good analysis. It does show how a couple of signings, injuries, or even one player's form can be the difference.

We knew at the outset that we need luck in all such areas to challenge, and as yet we've had little. At least Yeates is turning the tide.

Onwards and upwards.

I also think he's realised that we aren't good / lucky enough to rely on grinding out bore draws. Being defensive hasn't reaped rewards, so he's had little choice.

And haven't some of us been saying that the midfield is the key ;)

It will be interesting to see if Monty gets an instant recall when fit and I think Cressy is lucky to still be getting a guaranteed start but he doesn't have many options at present. He obvioulsy likes the 4-5-1, 4-3-3 whatever you want to call it but I still think Cressy is a waste of a player at the moment.

Despite their injury problems, Donny will be a good test on Saturday and it will be interesting to see how we go toe-to-toe with a passing team.

Might be a bit early for us, so I imagine we'll look to stifle their centre mid and see what they have down the wings.

I'm interested to see how Billy will cope with our Centre Halves. He doesn't have the skill or pace to beat them, I doubt they'll pump balls through the air to him, firstly because its not their style and secondly I can't see him beating Morgs/ Noz/ Bartley in the air. So I can only see them trying to play a clever passing game around the back four.

If Yeates can perform and start getting the ball into the strikers then we could do very well.

Good stuff that Bergan.
Its a pitty our more critical members get blinded by trying to keep up the criticism than actually looking for the improvements, well done.

Not fair Boo.

I'm a critical member [the very thought!] and I do see the improvements and have said so repeatedly. It's a pity some of you did not see the need for the said improvements, nor did you call for them, but chose instead to support our much-missed former reserve, semi-pro, non-league goalie.

One of the key improvements, I'm sure you'll agree, is the removal of a certain non-footballing mediocrity from the midfield. I think its called a Montyectomy; performed with great skill by consultant surgeon Mr. Speed.

Aimed at me I guess. But I've been suggesting changes/improvements for weeks.

What exactly does this thread show other than we should never of had Evans and Monty in the team in the first place? Two of our high earners just haven't performed and we are better off without them. It just shows how little Monty was offering to the team when a deadbeat like Quinn comes in and adds more value. The attacking central midfield option needs badly addressing (as Jim has been juming up and down saying for weeks) and Speed really needs to look to bring someone in (or though). Bogdanovic outscored Evans by 3 goals to 1 last season, so it is hardly surprising that the team is better with him upfront than Evans.

I'd like to see Cresswell dropped and Ward brought in. Yeates and Ward may have to swap wings (which they can during the game) and then we'd have 2 decent attacking options out wide. In Yeates and Ward you've got 2 people who can make things happen and get in behind the defence.

Wo Wo Wo, You jumped a bit didn't you? i mentioned no names. Maybe i should have incerted the word 'some'. Yesterday you made a posting in the 'well done Blades' thread did you give any criticism in there? no, some take every chance to say 'but' without actually looking.
As for the second part I'm not getting in to that again maybe it will be a total removal or just a bit of keyhole to improve things. Either way you have great faith in your surgeon and if its keyhole im sure you'll accept it for the best.

Steady on Olle, time for a lie down....:D

I can't I have a shed to build. I get criticised for being too negative, having polarised views etc but then I offer some constructive debate (even with a couple of positive's in there) and it's time for me to have a lie down. I can't win!?
