"Tufty"... Please explain?

I don't know CW personally, but the people who do, and I can call these people good friends, know him on a personal level as tufty. I've never asked why.

Well we don't know CW on personal levels... let's leave the nickname for his personal friends, eh !

Inspired by one of Lydon's posts today , I appeal to all of us to cease using the nickname 'Tufty' for Chris Wilder.
It isn't even his nickname - as far as I can discover , it's Alan Knill's , following the latter's near-fatal incident with a bicycle and a squirrel - just Google "Alan Knill Squirrel" for confirmation in press articles at the time.
Please let's stick to CW or Wilder.
'Tufty' is not only an embarrassing moniker , it's factually incorrect.

I will withdraw my appeal if anyone can present cogent evidence of CW being happy to be called 'Tufty'.

I really wish this registered on my Richter scale of shit to worry about. We have close to world war going on, terrorist threats, poverty, starvation and Mcnultys hair to worry about, but you think we should stop calling Wilder Tufty. Let me think.

Erm I'm from stocksbridge so I'm probably related to him :D

:D

In a conversation with Martyn Harrison in 1998, discussing which players Steve Thompson might want to bring in, he said "I said to him, what about bringing Tufty back", meaning Chris Wilder.

Being a very old and cynical bas**rd ........ I seem to recall back in his younger playing days with us he was known a s Tufty ....... probably as a result of his hairstyle at the time. ( bit sticking up at the front )

I'm not 100% certain, and I may be proven wrong ..... but I think that's the history.

He's beaten your record Barney.

Fuck me, I didn't think it possible.

Trouble is mine that was warranted after a batch of signings that were so obviously going to be poor. And no surprise, they were. Wilder is already streets ahead of that plank before him.

Has Tufty suddenly got an issue with being called Tufty, or is it just you don't want anyone to call him that?

I'll give you a month.

For the sake of argument, I've conveniently forgotten that you were actually at it after about 2 weeks when he hadn't signed anyone.

" beginning to have my doubts about Wilder".

A few doubts creeped in here and there, nothing untoward.

Have 50 likes. It's pathetic and I'm sick of seeing it. As Python Cock says, it's cringeworthy.

What's wrong with 'Wilder'?

I don't know why the fuck anyone would call somebody by a nickname if they don't know them personally. It's a bit cringworthy to be honest.

Most people used to call Sir Alex "Fergie". Is that cringeworthy too?
