I'd go for the latter. I can quite believe him saying we're going to get promoted, he always does, but he's not one for giving out any kind of information to the general public other than his standard sound bytes. On the subject of Evans, he's only just half way through his 'guaranteed' 2 1/2 year sentence and his contract finished last year so he has no ties whatsoever to us unless he feels he has a debt to settle.

I'd go for......."I saw McCabe and stalked him until he agreed to have a photo with me, I asked him about Evans and he told me to fuck off"

Yes, as far as I recall he is inside until October 2014 at least. And for his faults, I can't believe for one second that McCabe would come out with anything like that.

Chances the "free stuff" might now not materialise?

A friend of mine works as a volunteer in a i think its Doncaster prison anyway when Ched got sent down i told him about his case and he said when he has 9 months left he'll get transferred to his prison as it is the nearest to his home in penistone. (thats assuming it hasn't been sold) so as and when he moves he'll have 9 months left.

I would suggest Robbie is being honest. K.McCabe whatever you may think is quite open and genuine in conversation.

As to the veracity of what he wishes for, well what he says about promotion is clearly not a 'truth' as its not up to him and therefore I would have thought the statement about Evans was 'hopeful' too.

If he speaks optimistically to a young supporter about what he hopes will happen, it doesn't make him a liar.

Its entry level sports psychology after all, boxers do it all the time.

I'd go true. Although the bit about being sacked is bollocks his contract would have been cancelled, but I quite expect him back at some point next season (2014-15 season that is).

Aye, I expect him to come back too. We'll get a lot of stick (as will he) but the guy would have served his time and should be allowed to resume his career.
.

obviously bull, he didn't say "hey Robbie", McCabe impersonator alert!

Serious question, what would bringing Evans back do to the reputation of the Club? I know in black and white terms you can say he has paid his debt, but the likes of fat boy Samuel would have a field day.

Also after 2 1/2 years of a porridge diet he is going to be the size of Razor Ruddock and make Porter look like Road Runner!

Another serious question. Who cares? I support the Blades, I couldn't care less if we're everybody else's second team because we're a "family club", whatever that is, or we've got this lovely media friendly image, or if the rest of the country hates us. The latter is more true than the former anyway, with a recent poll on Twitter having us up there with Leeds and Millwall for the most hated clubs. (I accept this could be bollocks, like a lot of stuff on there is.)

We support them, nobody else does, I'm really not fussed about the club's reputation amongst non-Blades supporters.

Or the club may want to help him put his life back together as, like many on here, they still believe he didn't do anything criminal?

As a slight aside, I heard a rumour a week or so ago that Fleetwood have approached Ched (or his 'people') with a view to offering him training at least when he gets out. I've no idea how true this is but bearing in mind they took Joey Barton on at the start of last season, there's no reason to believe they wouldn't at least be thinking of a similar deal.

It depends on your view of our criminal justice system. Should his punishment continue for the rest of his life and should it effect his ability to earn a living?
The fact that many tend to believe sentencing for crimes are too short is a entirely different debate.

Personally I don't agree with what he did, and I think he should have served longer. However once released his debt is considered paid, (upon release conditions), and therefore should be able to continue his life.
Would I want him at our club, I'm not sure I certainly wouldn't protest against it if the club felt it right, but I wouldn't buy a kit with his name on the back but that's my personal decision.

McCabe apparently said "Evans will be back soon and hasn't been sacked".

This statement is highly likely to be true and does not mean Evans will play for us again.

1. He will be released from prison next year. Its highly likely he will pay a visit to the Lane to meet up with all chums.
2. He wasn't sacked. His contract ended in summer 2012 and wasn't renewed.

:-)

What Ched did was certainly criminal - according to the law.

I doubt that Ched realised it at the time though. He was doing the "I'm a professional footballer, this is what we do" thing. Immoral? - yes; Naive? - yes; Stupid? - yes. Unfortunate? - possibly.

I wouldn't object to having him back if he was suitably contrite and behaved like a 'proper' professional.

It never did Notts County, or Birmingham any harm when they brought Lee Hughes in, and Marlon King............. this is no different to that?

It was Oldham who first employed Hughes following his release, and there was a stigma around it at the time. No lasting damage, but a lot of bad publicity which may well have resulted in sponsors withdrawing and other commercial impacts.

Surely if Ched DID come back to Bramall Lane and looked for a deal, we probably wouldn't even be able to afford him. I doubt he'd happily take a tenth of the wages he was on before with his first spell for us.

A mate of mine sees McCabe quite regularly at La Manga. Sounds like a decent chap and has often given him some info and made some interesting comments. He nor I are about to divulge that info though on social media nor forums though.

On this lads comments, I'd go for 50% genuine though
