Just under 6 weeks until the Transfer window flys open and god we need permanent signings, Cotterill gone on loan, Killa likely to leave on loan perhaps before the window opens.

Given the assumption that Blackie will still be in charge

Who should be go for? Anyone stand out?

Given that Blackie gets a lot of stick for the Hoofball, do we go for players that can fit into the Hoofball style and that could get results or do we do we try to get creative players?

And I know this will be hard but please try not to treat this as an opportunity to turn this thread into a Blackwell out/ Blackwell will ruin anyone we sign/ he makes awful signings or any other chance to have a dig.

he wont sign a keeper on a permanent deal, thats a given, cos he's kenny's got a new deal now. he'll only sign a couple of players with a £3m budget.

its hard not to turn it into that cause weve had/got plenty of good players. williamson and harper can both play and would be a quality partnership under odriscoll/coppell. if we sign 'hoofball' players then blackwell goes just after january then a new man isnt going to have a chance to make an impact.

if he stays until then i cant imagine the type of players he thinks we need, or who, that is good enough, would want to play for us at the mo.

When would you stop going for 'players that can fit into the Hoofball style and that could get results'?

Same for me, can't see how it's going to go. He wanted pace and wingers in the Summer, Cotts has gone, Kyel hasn't had a sniff and presumably Treacy won't be returning so we're left with makeshift Wardy and Cresswell with Little as back-up.

Killa has to be replaced and KB has talked about bringing 4 or 5 in but even with a £3M budget, it won't be easy and we'll doubtless be hanging on until the end of January as usual.

As Beighton says, we could be in for a few surprises before we hit January though.

If i was McCabe i would'nt give Asswell another penny to spend.

he's wasted millions!

I am not hopeful of us bringing in anyone thats on a par with the players going out that is for sure.

Probably more important that the loan window closes in a few days. We need a 'keeper in and if Killa doesn't go this week, we've got him throughout December

For me, it's not so much who we bring in but I just would like us to bring in some permanent players. I don't mind having a squad full of rubbish players, as long as they're our rubbish players. I just don't like having half a team full of players that aren't ours. It just doesn't feel right. Part of the enjoyment of watching the team is watching your players develop over time but I don't get that when they're premier league reserves only here for a short spell.

..and I thought we'd be on here having a rant/perv (delete as appropriate) about the latest Debenham's window display featuring scantily clad ladyboys!

I've just had a look at our squad, and we've only got 18 players at the club that we actually own.

This includes...

1 keeper (Bennett)
1 right back (Geary)
3 left backs (Taylor, Stewart, Naysmith)
3 centre halves (Morgan, Kilgallon, Fortune)
2 right wingers (Little, Ward)
1 left winger (Reid)
4 centre mids (Montgomery, Quinn, Williamson, France)
3 strikers (Henderson, Evans, Camara)

Now, I know two of loans are definitely being made permanent (Harper & Creswell), but it's pretty certain that Kilgallon is leaving, bringing us to 19.

I believe Walker is on a season long loan, so we should be ok at right back. But I have no idea on how long the other 5 (Bunn, Ikeme, Davies, Kallio, Treacy) are staying for. I believe they all run up to the end of January, unless someone can tell me otherwise.

So looking at our squad, we need : A centre half, a right winger or a striker depending on where Ward is going to be played, and a left winger.

So, at least 4 other players. Blackwell was saying it was taking the squad a bit of time to settle after all the new transfers over the summer; now I can't help thinking that we're just going to be in the same boat after January because there's a possible turnaround of about 10 players

I might just be reading too much into it, but this is why I don't agree with the huge amount of loans we've brought in this season. Some were down to unforeseen injuries, but we already had 4 anyway.

EDIT : I've not included Cotterill, Sharp or Haber as I understand all three will be leaving permanently.

I know Davies loan runs out this next month Daz, either the 16th or 19th I think.

Not soon enough for some maybe ;-)

Depending on the fee I think we should sign Davies.

Yeah? I don't really rate him, I know the back 4 and keepers have been poor at times, but he just doesn't give confidence.

I know we don't have other proven/ fit alternatives, so we may not have a much choice. How much do you think he's worth? I think he'll be over a million and therefore over priced.

I think given the circumstance, thrown into a derby match within an hour of signing, never played with a consistent partnership either at centre half or across the back line, his performances have been decent. Again like Ched improving although I wouldn't throw millions at him, but if Stoke want him out then I would have him over most of our other centre halves.

Do you Bob? I think he's got the makings of a half decent centre half if only he could tackle, head a ball and had a bit more pace about him!;)

;) well there certainly room for improvement.

I am no football tactician by any stretch but from what I have seen I think we could do a lot better than Davies. He makes me feel nervous (when I am watching United play - not in every day life - my every day life is uneffected thankfully, phew).

I would like to add the above statement is slightly discredited by the fact I have only seen him play for United three times and that was on tele and two of those times where in the middle of the night as I am in Australia. In fact, the more educated fan would just ignore me.

But, just to put it into perspective, I am more nervous of upsetting any Davies fans (or Davies family members who happen to be reading this) than he made me in the two games I got up for in the middle of the night which were a bit of a blur in all honesty (and crap), however, against Wednesday he made me more nervous than I am now.

I dont know if you are reading this, Mr Blackwell, but I hope it all makes sense.
