Too old for heroes?

I may be an exception, but I've never done the hero worship thing. I've had favourites (my era was also the Deane, Agana, time). I've admired players, such as Borbokis with his free kicks, Hodges's left foot, who could forget the goal that sent Forrest down? But it's all a long way from the hero worship that I see from others. And I'm too old for that nonsense now anyway. I also always cringe when I see kids with names across the back of replica shirts, because I think how upset they'll be when the club sells them - especially if they're any good.

I'm surprised no one has done this yet, so here you all are..... a 1, a 2, a 1234.....

Whatever happened to Leon Trotsky?
He got an ice pick that made his ears burn
Whatever happened to dear old Lenny?
The great Elmyra and Sancho Panza?

Whatever happened to the heroes?
Whatever happened to the heroes?

Whatever happened to all the heroes?
All the Shakespearoes?
They watched their Rome burn
Whatever happened to all the heroes?
Whatever happened to all the heroes?

No more heroes any more
No more heroes any more

And for the benefit of the uninitiated...

Cracking song.

Fab Five Freddie told me everybody's fly
DJ's spinning I said my, my
Flash is fast, Flash is cool
Francois sais pas, Flashe no deux
And you don't stop, sure shot
Go out to the parking lot
And you get in your car and you drive real far
And you drive all night and then you see a light
And it comes right down and lands on the ground
And out comes a man from Mars
And you try to run but he's got a gun
And he shoots you dead and he eats your head
And then you're in the man from Mars
You go out at night, eatin' cars
You eat Cadillacs, Lincolns too
Mercuries and Subarus
And you don't stop, you keep on eatin' cars
Then, when there's no more cars
You go out at night and eat up bars where the people meet
Face to face, dance cheek to cheek
One to one, man to man
Dance toe to toe
Don't move too slow, 'cause the man from Mars
Is through with cars, he's eatin' bars
Yeah, wall to wall, door to door, hall to hall
He's gonna eat 'em all
Rapture, be pure
Take a tour, through the sewer
Don't strain your brain, paint a train
You'll be singin' in the rain
I said don't stop, do punk rock

Pretty surreal when you read em like that

Sorry old boy, perhaps there's a mysterious connection between Rapture by Blondie and this thread about Heroes..... now if you'd responded with this then I'd understand.....

I, I will be king
And you, you will be queen
Though nothing, will drive them away
We can beat them, just for one day
We can be heroes, just for one day

And you, you can be mean
And I, I'll drink all the time
'Cause we're lovers, and that is a fact
Yes we're lovers, and that is that

Though nothing, will keep us together
We could steal time, just for one day
We can be heroes, forever and ever
What'd you say?

I, I wish you could swim
Like the dolphins, like dolphins can swim
Though nothing, nothing will keep us together
We can beat them, forever and ever
Oh we can be heroes, just for one day

I, I will be king
And you, you will be queen
Though nothing will drive them away
We can be heroes, just for one day

If I had to pick just one musical hero, it would be Bowie

Almost as good as Dexys on TOTP singing Jackie Wilson Said in front of a large poster of Jocky Wilson.
Hehe...

Chris Morgan defined the spirit of the club for a decade. A born leader who refused to give up the fight. He did it the ugly way but it gave us a reputation as a tough team to play, at least physically if not always technically. How I would love to have some of that at SUFC today.

quite right tyler, i have said it before and i will say it again, we are lacking some serious muscle and physical presence badly

If we had a Chris Morgan today, would any of you (young or old) class him as your hero?
On a side note, his hero status was always tainted for me with how well he did at Barnsley. When someone is my blades hero I expect the player to love the club more than any other as well. In the same way Deane does, I hate hearing Bassett talk about his Wimbledon days- it's like the missis talking about a good looking ex.

Even as a bloke in my 20s bumping into a player never phased me but last year at the age of 47 I had the chance to have a conversation with God himself, yup the great TC and I totally bottled it for fear of making a complete arse of myself
47 and you know who sponge bob is? You're clearly down with the kids
Wouldn't worry, they say you should never meet your heroes!
Next month I meet hulk hogan, unfortunately he was mine growing up and this year hasn't exactly rekindled my love of the guy!
