Seriously, your Dad told you he was amazing...LOL. I come from that generation, we complained every week that he was lazy and drifted in and out of games, just had moments of brilliance. Would we sign him today, no way but we seem to still be paying him...

Have you been on the magic mushrooms??? Yes he could look lazy on any given day, but what a talent he was. Supremely talented and a wonderful footballer.

You are correct in one thing though. We wouldn't be signing a young version of him today. Quite simply because we wouldn't be able to afford his left toe. He would be playing with a premier league giant or on the continent living it large in Madrid or somewhere.

I watched every home match TC played in, never once thought he was lazy. He was GOD - more talent in his left toenail than most have.

Last year at its prime Coutts Duffy and Fleck was a beautiful sight to behold- the best midfield since TC easy. But Currie was the best midfielder ever to play at the Lane.

But if you complained every week at TC - quite simply - you didn't go. He was magnificent, the generation I grew up with were the luckiest Sheff U supporters ever- to witness a player taking on the best midfielders week in week out and beating them every time - WOW. Then to blow kisses to the crowds as he did it- simply amazing.

A player like TC now sells for £100 million - he deserves his free ride ten times over.

Lazy- NO.

World Class- YES.

He is our greatest ever player FFS
I think you are going to have to justify that comment at some length as people wake up and read this thread.

He was ace. His USP was that languid style, shirt out, big number ten on his shorts, slow the pace down, look up, feign a pass, switch on ten yards of pace and drift past two, three defenders, each of them thinking, 'he's your man!' Or he'd see Scullion, Salmons or Dearden drop off their player to make the move and he'd crack a 50 yard lofted pass into the metre-square bit of grass where they'd want it to be to run on to. You could almost see it in their faces as it dropped - 'fuck me, that's a ball!', and see the backpedalling defenders going 'oh shit!'. Or he'd simply look goalwards. make the calculations, a put his foot through the ball so it took off like a fucking missile. If the keeper got to it, then fine. He'd make a good save and kept them in the game. If he didn't, we were one-up.

And then he'd turn away and blow kisses to the kop.

What's not to love about TC?

pommpey

Wasn’t going to comment on this but decided to give my opinion on this post but to make it short and sweet.

“DICK HEAD POST!!!!!!!”

Pint of what you've had please.

Just the one mind , two would kill me.

Maybe he has a point.
I mean, perhaps it was his laziness that meant he never made it to more than 17 England caps....

Are you having a laugh, I was just trying to be honest

Having never seen hagan in the flesh, I’ll have to take my dear old departed dads word for it, that indeed hagan was the best he’d seen,..............................untill TC came along. So a man that’s seen both, justified to make a decision, picks TC, and I agree.

Never thought I'd say this, but (deep intake of breath) here goes...only in S2.

It's true! He only keeps getting picked because we paid 25 grand for him.

Wow, I bow out, not a pig but a Blade with memories. Hey the game down at St Andrews, we were supposed to get into Europe and the Birmingham fans were singing .. is Tony Currie playing>> got chased back to New Street station. Wow there was only one football special that night, strange you lot should have been on it, you probably like a quality goal from a quality player, would have liked it that night instead of a kicking.. Edit, remember Rodney Marsh?

no,the knobs who ran the game at the time didn't have a clue just what a genius was football-wise
There are other examples of this,Hudson,Bowles,Worthington, etc who weren't picked because they were "lazy" but were all sprinkled with genius!!
TC=GOD
Don't let anybody tell you otherwise!!

Wasn't you busy watching Eric Potts in Div 3.
Rodney and Tony were the shirts outside of their shorts cool guys, Tony was our Rodney. If you look at the last goal in that hat trick, quality. I am not against Currie, I am against the legend, If Currie is our best ever player with his stats, well the Human League are the best band in the world.....

Go on then.... I'll join in.
Firstly in fairness to the o/p, I certainly heard the accusation more than once, especially in the early part of his time at United, before some got him fully.
I remember having a debate with a fellow blade at work about Currie around 69/70. I was waxing lyrical about his skill, power and poise, he sniffed and just said 'idle bastard'. Dismissed him just like that, two years later he worshipped him:)
To the untrained eye, Currie could appear languid and at times disinterested, but that was the mistake teams made to their cost.
Without doubt he was a supreme talent. Did he achieve what his talent deserved? Hindsight says probably not, but neither did plenty of others.
The Blades had his best years, and I'm thankful I enjoyed his theatrical brilliance.

I'm with you on this PB. My comment was meant to be seen as sarcasm.TC should have been the first name on the England team sheet as far as I'm concerned.

You might have done (though I doubt from that post that you were ever really there), we , and everyone on the kop round us, didn't.

I saw both Hagan and TC regularly and they both had that laid back style that sometimes made them appear idle ,but they both had the skill to outfox any opponent.Personally I think TC just edges it.One of Hagans favourite tricks was to let the ball go over his head ,then bring his foot up behind him and kick it back over his head forwards. I feel privileged to have seen most of United best players since I first went to the Lane in 1946 as a 6 year old.

Rodney and Tony were the shirts outside of their shorts cool guys, Tony was our Rodney.
But Tony was in central midfield running the show which Rodney although skilful wasn't,as he played further forward than TC...i never got the lazy tag.
