Too young to have seen him.

My old dad did though and said he was The second best United player he ever saw.

He said no one has ever been a better footballer than Jimmy Hagan. And he included Pele and Best in that statement.

Had the pleasure of being around him for a while back in 91ish, I concur that the guy was nothing but miserable and I was severely disappointed!

Anyway happy birthday TC, your still one of my heroes!!!

I found him shy and reserved, not miserable- had he been a more confident individual there would have been no doubt who the best player in the world was - as it was he tended to produce his best at home games with the crowd behind him

On the occasions I've had the pleasure of his company, I don't understand this 'miserable' tag afforded to him.
Came to my house in April 1972 with John Hope and he was pleasant. John Hope was more talkative though. TC is a private person and many Londoners are like that so that is no problem for me (I was at a boarding school near Newbury for 6 years and there are more Northerners who are confident and talkative but the Southerners are fine but it usually takes more time for them to "accept" you when they know you long enough)

TC was only the best when he wanted to be, I remember a 3rd round cup game at Villa who were 2nd div at the time snow was falling at the teams came out TC looked up and my mate said that's him done ............................... he never had a kick and we lost 3-0

Who wouldn't be miserable, ney, manic depressive around an anally retentive know all android?

Oh,and it's "you're" .:)

I had the pleasure of spending an evening with TC in the eighties, and can honestly say he was one of the friendliest people I have ever met.
Only gripe he had with the blades was that a bid was made by man united ,united turned it down and never even told him about the enquiry! :(

He’s no intellectual and he’s pretty shy in public company. Even more so in his playing days.

If you want a truly miserable, grumpy old curmudgeon, the late and legendary Woody was your man...

TC miserable? Then you obviously didn’t know him. Happy Birthday Matey, ignore them as I know they were only acquaintances to you

Would have loved to have seen Woody and Fred Trueman in the same room. Would have blown Derek & Clive away.

When the teams were warming up before the Blades v Leicester in New Year Day 1972 the crowd sang a rendition of Happy Birthday to Tony. At the end TC responded by blowing kisses to the crowd

Must depend on the day and circumstances, i’ve spoken within him on at least three occasions and he’s been very friendly and engaging when he didn’t have to be. Also very patient and nice whilst talking to my 7 year old grandson. Stated on that occasion that Harry McGuire would one day play for England, I couldn’t agree with that. What do I know ?
