One thing about TC. I've heard people say they met him in the 70's and learnt that brutal lesson about never meeting your idol; claiming his was arrogant, big headed and an all round prize prick. But I have met him twice in the last 5 years (the last time being in the 0-3 home game against Huddersfield two years ago) and he came across very humble and decent (I also met Keith Edwards on the same night and found him to be a good laugh).

Anybody else met him personally?

I was at Bristol for the 1-0 in the promotionion season around 1970. Special Currie goal in a vital 1-0 win.

A good memory though is Currie on Question of Sport. Mystery guest is someone playing cards. Stan Bowles says TC. (Bowles had a big gambling problem).

Three memories of TC which haven't previously come up on this thread:

1. A goal he scored against Liverpool on Easter Monday, 1968. United had won 2-1 at Anfield on Good Friday with goals from TC and Gil Reece. This was the return fixture. The goal came at the Kop end. A cross from the left wing was flicked on by Mick Hill and Currie met it on the volley round about the penalty spot, absolutely smashing it past Tommy Lawrence. The game ended 1-1. We were relegated that season and it was down to our home form in the closing stages. The draw against Liverpool was the only home game in the last six we didn't lose. Amazingly, our away form at the end of that season was really good. The last six away games went WWLWLW.

2. His performance against Stoke at Bramall Lane in October, 1971. It was the week after we'd lost our unbeaten record at Old Trafford and we were really out of sorts. We were 2-1 down in the second half and Currie seemed to be playing them on his own. He scored a tremendous equalizer from the edge of the box at the Bramall Lane end and then a minute or two later won the ball near the right corner flag and dribbled in along the by-line before squeezing a shot past Gordon Banks at the near post only to see it disallowed, the ref ruling the ball had gone out of play. To make things worse, Stoke ended up winning 3-2.

3. A tackle on Tommy Smith, probably in the home game against Liverpool in October 1974 which we won 1-0. Liverpool had a corner at the Kop end and it was partially cleared, the ball kicked up in the air and dropping to Smith who was coming in at a rate of knots about thirty yards out, eye on the ball and intending to meet it on the volley. As usual, Smith had been dishing it out in his usual hard-man style and TC had obviously had enough. He ran out towards Smith but instead of just charging the shot down, he flew in two-footed and took him out about knee-high. Smith went down in agony and all the Liverpool players played hell up with TC, Keegan prominent among them. I think Currie was booked. He was a fantastic, creative player but he had a hard side to him, a characteristic I believe he shared with Jimmy Hagan.

Tommy Smith was born 2 days before the Germans surrendered the 2nd world war ,coincidence ?
