You see Alco this is where you lose me. Yes I thought the property was a good idea but I also said that we couldn't afford to keep the likes of Beattie. I said couldn't and shouldn't afford to keep Naysmith when people were moaning.
I've been saying for a long time that the wage bill was out of control and we needed to cut back but fans wouldn't accept it.

Now you might say this is all because of the property deals which might be correct but the wage bill was out of control regardless of the property deals. In fact the reason I stated when supporting the property/hotel was that we can't afford a £15-20 Million wage bill on the numbers coming through the gates and diversifying our income seemed a prudent idea.

Great Blade performance

Absolute class and already looks too good to be playing for Villa.
Whoever sold him for £3m must be bonkers.

Great goal (although poor defending), brilliant reaction for a young lad and rightfully applauded by the Lane crowd - well done all round.

Only one Blade on the pitch today Swiss.

Bloody hell, didn't realise injuries were that bad, only one player played??????? So thats why we lost.

I thought games got called off if you couldn't field 7 players?

Only you could be truly happy about him scoring today.

Great to see a Blade prospering.
Obviously sad, though not surprising, to see another huge cock-up by our board rubbed in our faces but yes, definitely pleased for him.
Relieved to know that our board now believe that young, local players are our future (again).
And shame it might be another 10 years before two of similar quality come through again.
Over to you Pembo.

He was also the best player on the pitch.

Give it a rest Leonardo, try supporting your team instead of taking every opportunity to undermine and criticise. It's tiresome beyond belief. I quite enjoyed today, nice goal from Kyle and a lesson to Billy in how to behave. But then again Kyle has class whereas Billy has peaked at, err, Doncaster.

When I saw the subject of this thread I thought the moon had turned blue, pigs were flying and Len had finally made a positive comment about the Blades. Of course; the truth was far from that in that we have yet another typically sad, anti-Blades comment from the people for one for whom the Blades can never do anything right.

I thought the Blades played well today; the score didn't do us justice. Sure Walker played well but he's a premiership player and until we are a premiership team with the relevant budget we have to accept that players need to be sold the balance the budget. If you can't handle this concept I suggest you support Man Utd... there are plenty of things to complain about there to keep you busy.

One of the most stupid posts I've come across on here.
If he loved United as much as you do why didn't he stay and play for the wages he was on.
Oh I forgot we forced him to leave even though he was under contract

Moan, moan, moan. Whinge, whinge, whinge. United are all shit, with no redeeming features whatsoever. Gloom, gloom, gloom. Doom, doom, doom. Sackcloth, ashes, self-flagellation. Wail and gnash teeth. World ending, end of days, armageddon, plague, famine, pestilence, death, scrofula, genital warts. Dog dead, cat fucked off, car broken down, wife gone off with milkman, the bitch, I liked him, 20% VAT, PAYE, bus fares up, petrol expensive, waily waily waily. Shitty, shit, shitty shitty shit shit. Poo. Amoebic dysentery. Kebab sick. Headache. Tense, nervous headache. PMT. OMD. OMG. Moan, moan, fucking moan.

Are you a woman lenners? You moan more than one. Moaning like a woman with PMT. Moan, moan, moan. Every silver lining has a cloud, and all that shit? Soul ripped out? Do us a favour and have some Valium, a nice cup of tea and a lie down, because it's like Groundhog Day.

Get your Woman's Weekly out, do one of those nice word-searches, read about how some miserable cow is even more miserable than you, take a deep breath, count to ten, whatever, just lighten up a little and think to yourself "Do they really want to read yet another thread about how United are shit, have only been shit since relegation in 2007, how all my woes are the biggest in the world, how United are shit, again, and how I am The One True Voice Of Reason And Nobody Else Can See." It has long since ceased to be novel, funny, enlightening or interesting. It's just another moan for the sake of moaning, squeaking away to itself like a door with rusty hinges that need oiling.

Morning, Len!

In response, I refer you to something I put on another thread:

"And Walker? If we'd have held on to him, it would have been cruel on him. After Wembley, and only 5 games I thought he was near enough the finished article. After seeing him at QPR and today, he is the finished article. An England place beckons and how the fuck he can't get in Spurs' team ahead of Hutton or that clown Assou-Ekotto is a joke."

So that's how football works. Player is developed by smaller club and is snapped up by bigger club. Christ, even Man U lost Ronaldo and Tevez!
Our loss is Tottenhams/QPRs/Villas gain. Just be grateful we've had a chance of seeing him in a Blades shirt. Like any son, you can't stop them wanting to spread their wings, however much you'd like to.

Ahem, proves the point that selling him when we did, 18 months ago, for a paltry £3m, was indeed bonkers.
The really sad thing is the club knew they had a gem on their hands, knew he was bigger and stronger than Naughton, and still chucked him away.
Real leadership is what it's about at United and until we get that at the top, where it counts, we will continue to decline.

>e haven't recovered our soul and that's something you can't put a price on.
amen to that mate.. agree with you totally.. that was the best thing warnock did.. robson and blackwell ruined it nicely

>If he loved United as much as you do why didn't he stay and play for the wages he was on.
if you're on about kyle w. i have it on good authority he was still on apprentice wages when he left and wasn't bothered about leaving.. also kyle N. wanted to go to everton

I really think it's a bit early for beatification of the two Kyles len (just as an aside, realistically, only one of them can be St. Kyle, the other one will have to take on another name).

When both Kyles went, you said it was the right thing to do, as otherwise we'd be standing in the way of their progress, so yesterday was only to be expected, you can't have it both ways.

As for £3 million being bonkers, let's see what Spurs get for him if he's not part of Harry's plans and they sell him, at which point we'll get our cut of the sell-on clause.

I don't know why you're lost Bob. We spent too much in both areas, at the wrong time. What's confusing?

There's nothing wrong with admitting we / you got it wrong. I too supported our decisions to begin with, then realised we'd gone too far. By the time the debt was becoming clear and we were still prepared to spend £40M on the ground, I realised we'd lost it.

We have a sell-on clause?
Is this like the season-long loan/pick of Spurs' youngsters clause?

According to McCabe, we got £3M + £1M for him. I'm not sure of the criteria for the extra £1M mind...:)

You've made a loud noise about the soul of the club being lost Len. For me, the club found it's soul in the Warnock era. Those who hounded him so vociferously should be feeling a little ashamed, shouldn't they....

Had to chuckle about him moaning about Walker upping sticks.
Our soul isn't in unpleasant, self-seeking, it's the ref's fault numpties.
It's in the players.
And by the way, I don't recall anyone hounding him out.
I do recall a manager who felt his own contract was the key issue in the week leading up to the biggest game in United's recent history though...

It might be interesting to see how many former Blades then go on to score against us, but I doubt very much it'll be as many as we perceive it is and probably just as many as at other clubs. It just stands out in your memory that's all.

I wasn't gutted about the Kyles at all. It's football. Players are bought. Players are sold. But the Blades will always be the Blades. No player or manager or chairman or fan is bigger than the club. They come and go and some of us stay and some go. Look to the future and stop living in the past.

Lenners,

I have no idea what you're talking about, so here's a picture of a bunny with a pancake on its head

Unbelievably someone gave me negative rep for this. Don't you know your memes guys? ;)

Funny how no one focuses on the fact that we got £7m for Naughton. Of course Len could see that KW was the better player but apart from that we sold 2 players for about £10m that Spurs would be luck tyo sell combined now for about £5m. I f Walker hadn't have scored on Saturday we would hardly have noticed him apart from that suicidal cross field pass that he played on his own penalty box that should have been punished. Plus the handball in the penalty box.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. Walker has been widely regarded as one of the best players in the Championship this season. He's a valuable property. Naughton looks overvalued, although of course he's still better than any defender on our books at the moment.

Anyway, it just highlights the idiocy of selling both. Even if Spurs wouldn't take just one, we know for a fact that Everton would have.

Everyone still taking Len's bait. Time and time again the usual suspects can't resist and wade in giving Lenners exactly what he wants. I ahve to take my hat off though, he has been doing it for years now. 4 or 5 lines of antagonism and everyone is in uproar. Len has obviously spotted that his no 1 most hated forum member spot is in danger (from Micalijo) and has pulled something out of the hat!?

As much as I can see that this post is purely to wind people up, I actaully agree with Len on the sentiment. Selling Walker, on top of Naughton, was ludicrous. It was incredibly short sighted of McCabe to push the double deal through. Yes we got an extra couple of million, but Walker would be worth treble that now. The deal on the table from Everton (£6m or so) should have been taken. However greedy McCabe wanted to plug the deficit in the annual accounts and pushed through the double sale. It's another example of hims being a shrewd business man, but poor chairman.

All this happened two year ago mind. The fact that Len has brought it up says 2 things to me: firstly that people take this forum a bit too seriosuly (and keep biting) and secondly he has a point and he has touched a nerve.

Can anyone confirm who played that suicidal ball across the edge of his own penalty area to Boggy in the 2nd half ;)

Oh, good point. This single bad pass - which led to nothing - says more about Walker than the rest of his career to date. He must be rubbish. How lucky we were to get rid of him.

As I recall, the offer on the table for Kyle N was £5M from Everton. Let's say we took that and kept Kyle W. We'll never know what could have happened post wembley but OK, you reckon he could have been worth £6M now, let's see what happens in the next 12 months but the fact is, we got, or could get £10M for the pair so some would say we did well getting that kind of money then, particularly as Kyle W had only played a handful of games at Championship level. Of course hindsight is a wonderful thing but I don't think the deal we got makes McCabe (as a businessman) short sighted in any shape or form.

Ollesendro, I can assure you there's absolutely no wind-up as regards Walker.
It damaged the club and means that even the most 'loyal' on here pretty much sneer at the notion United would really build a team around talented, local youngsters.

Of course hindsight is a wonderful thing but I don't think the deal we got makes McCabe (as a businessman) short sighted in any shape or form.

Firstly, it wasn't hindsight. Many people disliked this deal at the time if reactions on this and other boards was anything to go by. Indeed, one thing almost universally disliked was the sale of two players not one.

Dismantling the best defence this club has had in over 40 years, the defence which was the main factor in our play off run, was extremely short sighted. If management really did seriously want promotion, selling our two best young players, at a time when our left back was out for months and out keeper suspended for many months, was more than short sighted. It was wilfully stupid.
