You've got to get one right,i hope for your sakes you're right on this one,he'd be good for us in our respective league although he has only really done it at Port Vale and i think he's in his late twenties now,but again,another one not good enough for the step up to the Championship imo.

If we go up,there is going to be some re building going on again imo as this squad would struggle to stay up.
 
Are you really worrying about how good our players will be in the Championship ?
 
Thankfully it is a rumour that has been circulating since early this morning and not one of the Ops insider knowledge deals.

The way he was talking, I would have expected the targeted players to be from the league above.

I'm not worrying,noo_OI'm just stating where i think the squad is at,should we go up,and we should all know how hard it is to rebuild a squad.

Probably but there's always a domino effect on deadline day, clubs waiting til the last minute and then a stack of deals follow. We may well have been in for certain players all Summer subject to other deals etc.

And just to point out, while I don't think Pope (if the rumour turned out to be true) is a signing to get pulses racing, at least he scores at this level. We need to accept the level we're at and get players to suit it.

OK but he is the same type of player as Porter and Higdon - a no pace target man - that's not what we need IMO - unless it's a swap for Porter then I am OK with it as long as we get another goalscorer in to complement the brute force.

btw - surprised you haven't been keeping me updated with Henderson's scoring exploits so far this season ;)
Just wait til he gets a few red cards - then we will see the true Hendo.

Oh, I agree on that. He's definitely a bit of a lump of a targetman and not really what we need given Higgy.

I'm just sitting here smugly knowing that Hendo is giving this league a good going over. He'll have 20 by Christmas.

I'm sitting here quite happy he's in the honeymoon period and that he'll be drier than Thatchers fanny by October.
 
Port Vale chairman Norman Smurthwaite says the club has not had an offer for star striker Tom Pope, despite rumours of a possible move to Sheffield United.

The 28-year-old striker has started the season in fine form, scoring five goals in his first seven games.

Pope also netted 49 goals over the last two seasons, but, as today's 11pm transfer deadline approaches, Smurthwaite says there has not been a bid from Vale's League One rivals or any other club.

He said: "There is no truth in that to my knowledge."

Seriously though, how can you be that tight with your 'boyhood' club. If I was like him and played for the blades I would easily take a pay cut... well I wouldnt because i'd know it would be Mcabe being a tight bastard but in general... y'know....

I wouldn't. Not if i was 30 and thinking that in a few years time my earning power from football would have rapidly diminished.
