Tom Cannon's Resurgance

I've been his biggest critic but fair play to him, he's done well the last few games and weighed in with a couple of important goals. The Mrs. asked me what changed and I just said he'd improved since he was linked with a move to Stoke. Aah, there you have it, she astutely said, the fear of having to live in that shithole would see anybody busting a gut not to be forced to go there.

We'll see what January brings but for now, he finally looks like he gets us. Thank You Stoke City FC.

UTBFTP 👊👊👊
I disagree. I've been his biggest critic.

Can’t knock the goal and if he can score every week he’s in the team. He was enthusiastic with his pressing but his overall game needs to improve dramatically for me, he constantly took a bad touch, poor control, gave the ball away. I’m far from convinced but if he keeps putting the ball in the net then he’s doing his job.

He even tracked back a couple of times albeit didn't get any tackles in unfortunately. He still showed more enthusiasm than Campbell. Other than Campbell's just wide shot (which would have made it 4 nil) he did nothing. And he didn't play midweek so can't claim he was tired!

He cost a fraction of what Brewster cost and has had more impact in the last week than Brewster had in his first 3 years.

He’s been crap until this week, but he hasn’t been ‘Brewster crap’.
Brewster by a margin a better and more committed footballer…being injured throughout much of his first 3 years and playing in wholly incapable PL teams is a little imbalanced

Pound for pound the worst signing we’ve ever made. I’m not fussed about his apparent ‘commitment’ and what he did for the u17’s. He was crap for us and a waste of money. Cannon only needs to score 3 or 4 more goals in a 3 or 4 year period and he’s objectively a better signing.

And Brewster has only managed 8 appearances for Derby out of 18 league games. He’ll be League 1 for his next move.

342 minutes this season so far. There was a hankering for us to give him another year. Glad we didn’t, would be like throwing good money after bad.

I still don't see a decent Championship player in Cannon, I'm afraid. He's not quick, incredibly weak, can't head a ball, has a moderate (at best) first touch, is often on his heels in the box and his pressing is still half hearted. His only attribute that I can see is that he is willing to shoot on sight. He had a swing at Hillsborough and a deflection took it in (even though I would still maintain that objectively the shot was the wrong option!) That gave him some confidence and he did look a little livelier yesterday and took another swing when that Leicester defender inexplicably passed it to him in the six yard box. He hit the shot straight at the keeper rather than in to a corner, but Begovic obligingly dived over it.
His pressing looked better yesterday because he was alongside Campbell, who doesn't press at all. In fact Campbell can't even get his lazy arse on-side when we are defending and looking for an out ball. I really don't understand why our coaching staff aren't all over players who can't get themselves on side - it really is the most frustrating way of coughing up the ball.
Ings needs a goal to boost his confidence, but he does look like a footballer and his work rate is far better than the others. I think Bamford will turn out to be an excellent signing, so I still see Cannon as fourth choice if One goes out on loan, which he needs to do.

Some mental gymnastics going on to say a player who was one of top scorers in the league a year ago isn’t or wasn’t a decent striker at this level
