Player Suggestion Tom Cairney

looking at Fulham losing to Barnsley and forgot he was still there. I doubt we have that kind of money to play with but I reckon he'd do well for us.

See my post - on the macdonald thread

Paul Mitchell is apparently there today - they reckon he could be watching cairney or Manson.

Really can’t see I’d given the anticipated price.

Didn't Prince want a big name player? Maybe Wilder wants a big name from here instead of foreign? Doubt it though 🤣

Mawson would be a good shout. Back 3 is currently sorted but if we get an injury do we have the tight quality back. Also hed provide insurance against either Egan or JOC going cus if they Bristol Coty lad is worth over 20m what are they worth?

I can't see it being Mawson. He'd want to start and be £15-20 million. I think we all know Fulham aren't going up. Cairney will know this. He could push for a move.

More likely a Barnsley player.

That was my initial thought when I saw the news that Mitch was at the game. Far more likely he was following up on someone spotted/being tracked from the previous week's game than one of Fulham's (extremely well paid) players.

I’d be absolutely gobsmacked if we sign Cairney. Talented player but he’s not the right character for Wilder (read: he doesn’t work hard enough) and will cost far too much money (£20m +) for what would be an absolute luxury signing. Never say never I guess but I see no chance of this happening. If Wilder could somehow pull another £20m out the bag, it’s going on someone like Kelvin Phillips. Good player, good character, good age and plays a role we could well be in big need of.

Separately, that bloke seeing Mitchell at Barnsley v Fulham and speculating he could be looking at either Cairney or Mawson is the laziest of journalism. Given no thought whatsoever to how much they’d cost and whether they’d fit. I suppose he can have a pat on the back for remembering Mitrovic signed a new contract recently and not said him. Saved him from an even more stupid suggestion.

Can't see this at all ,we can't match his wages and his fee would be more than Brewster's

At 30, I wouldn’t want to be paying more than £2m or £3m maximum and with 3 years left on his contract, it would be difficult to get him cheap.

I don’t see why Fulham would let him go to a potential promotion rival, so just can’t see this one happening. It seems a case of making up rumours on the basis that Cairney has played for Slav before.

would be a good addition at the right price or even a loan but i agree hard to see fulham letting him go to a promotion rival but i would have thought cairney would be interested in teaming up with sj again so who knows

A player we should have been after a while ago. Ideal for our midfield.

I can see that the lazy journalism and rumours have begun already!
Expect to be linked to a whole host of Fulham players over this summer and some might be legit. However given the focus of the last 18 months has been to bring down the average age of the squad I’m not sure us being after a 30 year old coming off a long injury lay off fits that profile. We probably are in the market fo ball playing centremids but I’d imagine the board will want them to have resale value.

Which would be unbelievably lazy journalism. Fulham aren't likely to start shipping out players to a direct rival for promotion unless the buying club pays hugely over the odds

Yep but it will generate traffic both us and Fulham are likely to have a high number of incoming and outgoings so both fan bases will be watching the transfer window with a keen interest. Also with both of us newly relegated we’ll both be semi interesting to footballing neutrals due to recently having our profiles lifted by being in the prem plus the Fulham players we’ll be linked with will be recognisable enough to generate neutral clicks. There will be a shed load of lazy journalism surrounding United this summer for both incomings and outgoings.

Sheffield United have been linked with a move for Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney recently and he could amend a key issue in the Slavisa Jokanovic’s side ahead of next season.

According to Football League World, the 52-year-old, who was appointed Sheffield United boss earlier this week, as set his sights on signing the Scottish midfielder this summer, as he looks to add to his squad ahead of the Blades’ return to the Championship next season.

It is suggested that the Serbian manager is keen to make Cairney his first signing as Sheffield United boss, although Fulham are reluctant to let him go, considering his excellent performances in the Championship in recent seasons.
