To be fair, I thought the same. It has a feeling that they know something more but not prepared to say. Otherwise it’s just another regurgitation of what we already know.

A better journalist would be spending his lunch hours in the Banner to who comes in talking to the landlord. Maybe put their house on the market and ask for the owner.

I would love one of our Star journalists to get some balls and become the new John Saddler and tell is how they really feel.

Hmmmmm. Interesting. Any more?

The melting pot is a metaphor for a heterogeneous society becoming more homogeneous, the different elements "melting together" into a harmonious whole with a common culture or vice versa, for a homogeneous society becoming more heterogeneous through the influx of foreign elements with different cultural background with a potential creation of disharmony with the previous culture.

Lazy commenting.

Only seen the Peter Beeby article online and not the printed version but does that report cover your above copy and paste from Wiki? Does it reference the "melting together into a harmonious whole" or anything remotely on those lines?

Is there a link to the full article as printed?

What we need is a great big melting pot. Or in the case of the Blades, a smelting pot.

If you have to explain things you have failed :D

Not sure if this is worth getting all worked up over, it’s pretty much what’s happening isn’t it.... possibly all gathered from Facebook comments this forum and twitter..

Loved the court reports, especially when one of the biggest horrible bitches I ever met at school was nicked for prostitution, karma, I love it.

Genuine question, which parts do you think were gathered from this forum?

It's okay Danny04, I've seen a copy whilst waiting for a takeaway. Absolutely no reference or mention of anything in your melting pot definition.

That would mean I’d have to read it and I’m not too bothered about that, chances are I know it already, maybe I’ll read it and get back to you..

Nah, always better to make wild, ill-informed claims without reading. More fun that way :)

The second one is me embedding my own tweet of the McKee column, in an opinion column. Of course some is social media driven but there's a big leap from that to saying stories are 'possibly all gathered from Facebook comments this forum and twitter'.

Yeah and like I said earlier I’d no issue with the original peice, and i really can’t blame media for using fan sites or forums because this is one of the main reasons I’m using this page, some people on here are very often first with the story when it comes to United...

Now a regular poster on here, goes by the name of Woo.....

Ooh, you mischievous tinkershark.

Lazy to the nth degree from the Starman. Any real writer has respect for the traditions of the language he uses, even if he’s (knowingly) subverting them. Alternatively, of course, he just reflexively defends shoddy uses of language because of who (or what) he works for.

“Melting pot”, in this context ? My arse.

Except nothing’s come from here :)

Yeah, a melting point isnt a bad thing is it? Just means its not ready and cooking? Seems a weird headline, intended to be more dramatic than it actually is......

I also looked on Giphy for "Melting Pot" and got this, so it must be good.....

They’re not natural though. Spoils it for me. I like em to droop in her face when she’s upside down.

It is, for the reason you point out. Conventionally, it’s a traditional metaphor for the blending of different influences into something new (often used, eg, in nineteenth and early twentieth century thinking about identity and culture in the US).

As such, it seems a completely daft headline for a scenario which is about one owner trying to wrestle sole control from the other (completely the opposite, in fact, of a coming together and blending of different identities or influences !).

Sheffield Star. #ManglingtheEnglishlanguageforall

I think they meant to say “in meltdown” but someone has nicked off with their John Bull printing kit.
